N,
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has developed a graphical tool for the analysis of multivariate data sets. The invention uses parallel coordinates visualization techniques with graphical statistical indicators in a geovisual analytics approach that facilitates a deeper understanding of the statistical associations in the multivariate data sets. Fundamental parallel coordinates features such as frequency information display, dynamic axis reordering, axis inversion, and details on demand are included in the system. Current environmental data analysis techniques are inadequate due to the increasing quantity, quality, and number of different parameters in todays datasets. To overcome these limitations, the NRL toolkit brings parallel coordinates visualization techniques to bear. The resulting software package combines the successful parallel coordinates visualization technique with geographical statistical indicators and automated decision support processes. Originally developed for the analysis of atmospheric phenomenon and environmental data, this toolkit can be used with any multivariate statistical dataset. These can include economic data, financial data, demographic and census data, and others. NRLs Parallel Coordinates Analytic Toolkit is currently coded in Java, and is available for commercialization.
