The M1 is progress in motion.

From the 10th of October, the second in a series of significant
changes to the M1 will come online, as the new off-ramp from
the Bolte Bridge to the West Gate Freeway and the new Kings Way
exit open.
Dedicated Exit Lanes are another important component of the M1 upgrade. These
‘separation by destination’ lanes keep you moving towards your exit, reducing the
need for merging and weaving.

Because the M1 has changed significantly, you will need to change the way you drive.
So please take the time to plan your journey, look out for the new directional signs and
choose your lane early. We’ve still got a lot of work on the $1.39 billion M1 upgrade. It’s
all part of the Victorian Government’s ongoing Transport Plan to ease congestion and
provide a safer, more reliable journey for Melburnians moving forward.

We would like to hear from you. Write to us now!

SPECIAL PROJECT TO SERVE SRI LANKA
At this present time there is unending conflict, disputes and war which are ripping
apart many nations, causing immense peacelessness, sorrow and suffering to man-
kind. Some countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and many African, Middle-Eastern and
South Asian countries have been in a state of unrest for many years.

Everyone aspires for peace to be restored and many dialogues, conferences and
peace treaties have been formulated year after year, with no result.

How can we really establish peace in any particular nation or in the world as a whole?
Is it merely a dream that can never be achieved?

As we know the famous saying “war begins in the mind of humans” likewise, peace
can only be established within the peaceful minds of individuals. Therefore, it is only
possible if each one of us contribute to world peace by spending a few minutes each
day by praying or meditating i.e. to think positively to achieve world peace. We may
wonder if that is possible. Well, it is undeniable that the human mind has the greatest
potential to uplift or to destroy the world. Let us bring a heavenly world by first of all
creating peace within our own minds to influence the world positively.

To assist this process, we would like to launch a CD in Tamil entitled ‘INNER PEACE
FOR WORLD PEACE – SERVE SRI LANKA’ to encourage people, especially the
Tamils around the world, to spend time in meditation and positive contemplation to
assist in the process of easing the condition in Sri Lanka (one of the most troubled
countries at this moment in time).

The Tamil Senior Citizens Association, Melbourne will be launching this program “In-
ner Peace for World Peace – Serve Sri Lanka” by promoting this special meditation
Australian Tamil Literature Society Office Bearers CD at their monthly meeting on 21 November 2009. Brahma Kumaris wish to promote
this project especially amongst the Tamil community. For further details, please con-
tact BK Sarala or BK Christine at Brahma Kumaris Fitzroy, Melbourne Tel: (03)

A view of the sunset from the Kanekeswaran temple in Trincomalee.

TRINCOMALEE, the capital of the Eastern Province, remains a sleepy town

on week days and comes to life only during the weekends when people from
all parts of the island flock in for their first glimpse of the east after years. A few
houses along the road even have “Lodging Available” boards in Sinhala.

The tariffs for furnished houses vary from Sri Lanka Rs.3,500 to Rs.5,000 a day.
($1 fetches Sri Lanka Rs.114). Nilaveli is one of the main beaches where the
ocean is calm and a sea-bather could venture far out into the sea. On weekends
the beach is packed with vehicles and families can be seen frolicking.

Another attraction is the seven hot-water wells at Kinniya, on the outskirts of the
town. The waters of the wells are considered to have mineral properties that help
in healing skin eruptions and rheumatic pain.

The springs are under the care of the local municipal council, and the authori- 29 Railway Parade North, Glen Waverley

the ocean. Swami Rock attracts thousands of devotees.

The Tourism Ministry hopes that by 2012 it can transform Trincomalee into a
major tourist hub. A conceptual zoning plan is being prepared in an attempt
to achieve this. Currently, the only star hotels in and around the town are the
Nilaveli Beach Hotel, Blue Oceanic at Uppuveli, and the Welcome Hotel near the
inner harbour. Room rates are Rs.8,000 for a double room with full board and
Rs.9,500 for a deluxe double room. There are plenty of hotels and eating houses
in the town, but most are in a dilapidated condition.
