The MSC.1/Circ. 1392 Clock Is Ticking

At the IMO MSC89 in May 2011, in response to
an increasing number of serious accidents and
fatalities with lifeboats, it was decided to
implement new requirements for lifeboats with
on-load release hooks Lifeboat Release and
Retrieval Systems (LRRS).
Existing LRRS to be verified and tested against the new
requirements no later than 1st July 2013.
LRRS that do not comply have to be replaced at the
first scheduled dry docking after 1st July 2014, but no
later than 1st July 2019.

IMO LRRS Requirements

The weight of the lifeboat should
not cause any force to be
transmitted to the LRRS operating
mechanism when the release hook
is in the fully closed position.
LRRS locking devices cannot turn to
the open position due to forces from
the hook load.
Cam pins must be capable of
rotating 45 while still holding the
safe working load.
If the LRRS has a hydrostatic
interlock, it must reset automatically
after the boat is lifted from the water.

Safelaunch LRRS
Designed for use with any
manufacturer's lifeboat design.

Safelaunch LRRS Key Features

Meets all latest SOLAS / LSA regulations.
Tail of hook designed to mate perfectly with the cam
pins curved surface.
Cam pin must be rotated beyond 45 before the
release hook can open.
Hook can only be opened after a series of significant
and positive physical actions.
The position of the cam-pin can be easily confirmed
by the visible indicator before boarding.

Closed

Custom safety pennant attachment arrangement for

maintenance and training drills.
Critical tolerances compromised by wear and tear
or corrosion are not an issue.
Hydrostatic interlock ensures the lifeboat can only
be released after the boat is fully waterborne.
The internal operating mechanism has a safety
locking pin which prevents inadvertent activation.
