Dwarven Stoneguard

The Dwarven Stoneguard is a new Hero for you

to use in the Chronicles of Arax solo adventure
game.
The Dwarven Stoneguard were once the pride of
the dwarven strongholds. They were elite warriors,
charged with defending the strongholds from the
many enemies of the dwarven people: the orc tribes
of the north, the goblins from beneath the ground,
and the various monsters and savage beasts that
roamed the wilderness.
For the most part, they were highly successful. On
only one occasion did the fortresses of the dwarf
people become compromised, and that was mainly
due the corrupting and poisonous magic of the
goblins causing illness in many of the Stoneguard.
But even then, they were able to overcome this and
eject the goblins from their home.
All of this changed at the start of the Age of
Darkness and Nightmares. The orc hordes attacked
on masse, the goblins found new and powerful
magics, and demons and undead monstrosities
added to the dwarven problems. Slowly, one by one,
the dwarven fortresses began to fall.
The Stoneguard, being the first line of defence for
the dwarven people, were blamed for not defending
their homes properly. They became maligned
amongst their own people even though, in the face
of overwhelming odds, they never once faltered or
fled, laying down their lives for their homes.
Today, the Stoneguard continue to defend the last
two dwarven fortresses left standing from their
enemies. They do so with skill, bravery and
resolution. Some Stoneguard have left their
ancestral homes, traveling out into the wider world
in the hopes of finding some sort of aid for the
dwarfs. What they have found has left them in
despair, yet they continue to fight, never giving up
on the hope that, one day, the will push the darkness
back and a new age of light will begin.

Skills

When a Dwarven Stoneguard gains a Skill, they

gain one of the benefits listed below. Roll 1 d10,
twice, and consult the list of Skills below. Choose
one of the Skills rolled. Your Hero now knows that
Skill and can use it as the description states. If you
happen to roll a Skill you already have, you may
instead choose one from the list freely.
1.

MIGHTY BLOW
Your Hero is able to hit with incredible force,
dealing huge amounts of damage to your enemies.

You may increase your damage bonus by +1.

2.
PAINLESS

Your body is attuned to pain, and you have

developed techniques to ignore it.

Whenever you lose Wounds from something

other than a battle, you may reduce the
amount of Wounds lost by 1 (down to a
minimum of 1).

3.

ANCESTRAL ENEMY
Ever since you were a young dwarf you have been
trained to fight orcs and goblins.

Whenever you enter battle against an orc or

eyes so that you can see even in the dimmest
conditions.

You always count as having a lantern.

5.

GOLD LUST
All dwarfs from all walks of life have an almost
unhealthy love of gold. You are no different.

Whenever you find coins, you find double

the amount rolled.

6.

MAGIC RESISTANT
Some dwarfs have developed a resistance to magic
over the years, especially those who are exposed to it
frequently. As a Stoneguard, you often feel the
effects of enemy magic.

Whenever you are affected by a spell, roll 1

d4. On a roll of 4, you may ignore the effects
of the spell.

7.

FIGHTING SPIRIT
Even as you draw your last breath you fight on,
defending your home and people to the very last.

If you are reduced to 0 Wounds in battle,

centuries from Stoneguard to Stoneguard and
possesses all the power and wisdom of its former
