March 29th, 2017 ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S): o How can you relate the themes of Romeo and Juliet to your own life? LESSON TOPIC: o Romeo and Juliet SUBJECT, GRADE LEVEL: o English 9 APPROXIMATE LENGTH OF LESSON: o 50-55 minutes CONTENT STANDARDS: o Standard-CC.1.2.910.A Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text o Standard-CC.1.2.910.C Apply appropriate strategies to analyze, interpret, and evaluate how an author unfolds an analysis or series of ideas or events, including the order in which the points are made, how they are introduced and developed, and the connections that are drawn between them. o Standard-CC.1.2.910.E Analyze in detail how an authors ideas or claims are developed and refined by particular sentences, paragraphs, or larger portions of a text GOALS/OBJECTIVES: o Students will bring in a completed Student/Parent survey. o The class will begin reading Romeo and Juliet and filling out a character chart to understand who is a part of what family. SEQUENCE OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES: o Students will arrive to class and attendance will be taken. o Once attendance is taken, I will tell students to hold onto their Student/Parent survey until we finish Act 1 Scene 2. o I will then hand out a sheet of paper with the plays prologue on it. Students will get with a partner and complete the activity. The activity asks students to silently read the prologue of the novel to themselves, and then line by line to their partner. I will ask students if they remember what the rhythm of the prologue is called (Iambic Pentameter) o When I go around to see everyones work, if everyone is done we will go over the worksheet. o Hopefully, I will get a chance to play the prologue for the students on the audio tape.
