College to accredit and certify hospitals or institutions for adult pulmonary medicine
training. The Pulmonary Training Program Accreditation Board is tasked to formulate
and execute policies, rules and regulations governing certification, subject to the
approval of the Board of Directors of the College.
The PCCP currently has thirteen accredited training programs for pulmonary medicine

help PCP eligible graduates review the topics that would be given by the Specialty
Board in the Diplomate Certifying Examinations.
The review program, through the valuable support of faculty from the different
training institutions, has provided board eligible members a better chance of
passing the certifying board exam. The continuation of this project and an increase
in the number of examinees taking and actually passing the examination is a
testament to its success.
Recognizing our role in the society as advocates of pulmonary health care in the
country, the College continuously engages in various activities all with a common
goal of enhancing pulmonary health in our country.
Regular conduct of medical clinics and lay fora participated by PCCP members
and fellows-in-training from the 13 accredited hospitals at the following sites:
Observed worldwide on March 24 every year, this event was conceived by the
World Health Organization to foster public awareness that TB remains an
epidemic in many areas of the world especially in developing countries. Every
year, the PCCP in coordination with the Philippine Coalition Against
Tuberculosis spearheads activities congruent with the theme for the year.
Page 11
This year’s theme was “Stop TB! Hanapin. Gamutin. Pagalingin.” The message is
to call for action among all TB stakeholders and getting everyone on board to
reach the thousands of Filipinos who do not have the access or are stigmatized
of TB and available TB services.
This event was initiated by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) to improve
asthma awareness and care around the world. This is observed every May 5.
This year’s theme was “You Can Control Your Asthma ... It’s Time to ACT”. In line
with this, the PCCP held tri-media conferences thru the provincial chapters.
August of every year is Lung Month by virtue of proclamation no. 1761 s. 1978.
This decree was done in 1978 in recognition of the fact that lung diseases,
especially pneumonia and tuberculosis, continue to exact a huge toll of
precious lives among Filipinos, especially the low-income group. This
declaration aimed to increase public awareness of these diseases.
For this year, Lung Month was celebrated through the launching of Ok Lungs!
Campaign with the theme “Helping Filipinos Breathe Easier, Healthier”. In
partnership with Watsons, a health and beauty retail chain, the activity was
aimed to raise awareness and educate Filipinos on respiratory health. With
over 6,000 participants, the affair was held in two separate venues of SM
Department Store. Individuals learned about the different respiratory-related
conditions and how to prevent or manage such conditions through interactive
videos, doctors consultation and educational lectures.

World COPD Day
This is an annual event organized by the Global Initiative for Obstructive Lung
Disease (GOLD) to improve awareness and care of COPD around the world.
Locally, this day is marked by the annual COPD Olympics and other activities
focused on COPD patients. World COPD Day for this year will be on November
18, around the theme “It’s not too late”.
In partnership with Glaxo SmithKline, the PCCP will hold a media briefing on
November 26 to unveil a COPD awareness commercial aptly titled Make Time for
Dad, Make Time to Learn about COPD. The public will be directed to
www.pinoycopd.com for further information about COPD and spirometry.
Now on its 8th year, the COPD Olympics is slated on November 28 with the theme
RakEnRolympics Rock to Beat COPD at the SM Megamall. It is aimed to foster
fellowship and camaraderie among COPD patients from the different COPD
Support Groups of the PCCP accredited hospitals while increasing awareness for
COPD.
CHIMe Summit
Hosted the 2nd CHIMe Summit (Council on Health and Integrative Medicine) on
12 November at the University of Santo Tomas, España, Manila. The theme was
“Choosing Therapies Wisely; Appropriate Choice of Therapy”, with main
objective to educate Filipinos on how to choose appropriate therapy from a
simplified Evidence Based Approach.
8. Training
Now on its FULL implementation, the PCCP with the 13 accredited hospitals
have joint efforts to conduct and undertake a proper, effective and efficient
implementation of the core competency-based curriculum for adult
pulmonary medicine fellowship training (2013 version) so that the
accredited institutions, to the best of its capability & resources, can provide
adult pulmonary medicine fellowship training that will hone and develop
professional, competent, skilled, ethical and compassionate pulmonologists
who will ably serve the Filipino people & the global community.
The PCCP, an enbloc country member of the APSR, was ably represented at the
APSR Congress Kuala Lumpur, November 2015 by the President, Dr. Patrick Gerard
Moral and the following Councilors: Dr. Charles Yu, Dr. Sylvia Yang, Dr. Camilo Roa,
Jr.
The PCCP has been holding strategic planning sessions every three years to map out
the directions for the College. This year, in line with the current national leadership's
platform of bridging the gap, we utilized some of the most valuable assets of the
College: the past presidents and the outstanding fellows in training.
