Corrosion

The document summarizes corrosion issues and solutions for the galley area and service door threshold of aircraft fuselages. It identifies specific areas of corrosion, including lower frame segments, floor beams, stringers, and the service door threshold. It then lists a series of modifications made to address the corrosion through applying protective coatings, improving drainage, and changing hardware. The document also outlines existing and improved maintenance programs.

FUSELAGE - GALLEY AREA AND SERVICE DOOR THRESHOLD

1. NATURE AND REASON FOR CORROSION MOD. 2826 (AA3 D1; O83 D1)
The corrosion is mainly located in the following areas: • The modification consists in spraying PR 1436GS on floor structure :
Rails, cross beams, frames, skin, stringer, crease beam under galley and
a. FR 36 and FR 37 lower segments. lavatory.
b. Floor beams between FR 36 and FR 39. Note : The AV8 protection must be applied after the PR 1436GS
c. Stringer 16 and 17.
d. Service door threshold. MOD. 3768 (ST1 D; ST2 D; ST3 D444; ST4 D466; ST5 D443)
• To improve the service door threshold against corrosion:
e. Auxiliary sill at stringer 17
− Install plate screws using PR under head.
The corrosion is caused by galley spillage and water penetration at level of − Add flanged holes on the web to water drainage.
service door threshold.
− Add new drainage holes at STR16 and 17.

2. RECOMMENDATIONS
MOD. 3770 (ST1 D388; ST2 D; ST3 D431; ST4 D466; ST5 D443)
• Apply water repellent products according to JIC 122351 PRO 10000 • To improve the corrosion life on the seat tracks:
periodically (as required) and keep the area clean.
− To apply PR1436G at the seat track ends, located near the rear doors
• Embody SB as indicated in paragraph 4. and toilet area.
• For A/Cs operating in a severe environment reduce the interval of the
inspection tasks. MOD. 3841 (ST1 D384; ST2 D; ST3 D429; ST4 D466; ST5 D443)
• Change the water repellent protection type from LPS3 to AV8.
3. PRODUCTION CORRECTIVE ACTION
MOD. 2817 (AA1 D1; O81 D1,OU1 D1, 2, 3 partial, 4) MOD. 3845 (ST1 D; ST2 D; ST3 D451; ST4 D466; ST5 D443)
• The modification consists in spraying PR 1436GS on floor structure : • Increase length of drain tubes towards the fuselage bottom at BL0.
Rails, cross beams, frames, skin, stringer, crease beam under galley and
lavatory. MOD. 4024 (ST2 D; ST3 D444)
Note : The AV8 protection must be applied after the PR 1436GS • Install a bead of sealant between the floor components and the rails and
the floor component themselves.

NOTE:
− The marketing master (MM4001/MM4002 composite clip-nut) are
intended for use inside the pressurized section of the aircraft in place of
metal clip-nut to reduce the potential for corrosion with aluminum
structure:
• 1st Don’t scratch the protection
nd
• 2 Eliminate galvanic corrosion

− The clip-nut MM4001-3-1 and MM4001-3-2 can replace most of

original metallic clip-nut installed on ATR on concerned areas (galley
area, service door and entry door areas, toilettes).
