Guided Instruction
Adolescence is a stage of rapid physical and psychological development that occurs from the onset of
puberty to adulthood. It is a stage where a person experiences the most dramatic physical change.
Nutrition is the connection of food you take to your health and well-being. It is the process of taking food
that contains the nutrients you need for healthy and growth and development.

Importance of Nutrients
 Gives energy and stamina for day to day activities
 Protects the body from diseases
 Spurs growth and development

Proteins- build and repair body tissues


Carbohydrates – provide the body its main source of energy
Fats – must be taken in the small amount
Vitamins and Minerals – organic compound that manage several body functions

Special Needs of a Teenager


1. Rapid growth and development increases that required consumption of body-building food
2. Bone development, in particular, is accumulated at this time. Bone or skeletal mass appropriately doubles at
the end of this crucial period.
3. Increased physical activities during adolescence must also be supported by increased amounts of energy
boosting food.
Ask the students the following questions:
1. Why should you eat a variety of food each day?

ACTIVITY: “SUM UP”

INSTRUCTIONS: This activity will help students to present their understanding of the important
concepts through the use of a graphic organizer. No specific organizer is recommended; let the students
express their creativity in connecting the ideas/concepts they have learned. They can also make sentences
and form a paragraph using the words/phrases given

1. Divide your class into 10 groups with 4 members each.


2. Each member will have their own task to do: (give their opinion based on what they learned and
understand)
Member 1- Nutrition and adolescence
Member 2- importance of Nutrients
Member 3 Special needs of a teenager
Member 4- will report to the class
C. SYNTHESIS
ACTIVITY: Exit Ticket
A healthy and balanced diet contributes to the holistic development of an individual especially for
adolescents like you.
 On a ½ sheet of paper, What are the things that you must do to have a healthy and nutritious lifestyle

Directions: You are now going to make your own slogan or motto stating your advocating good nutrition
and healthy eating habits. Make it creative!
