Floating Architecture
Floating Architecture
Floating Architecture
Floating architecture is the architecture capable of floating in the water
and maintaining a functional floor height above the water surface when
exposed to high tide or flood.
Floating Systems
Flotation Systems being used
include log floats, solid Styrofoam
encased in rubber, foam filled steel
pontoons, concrete pontoons,
concrete and foam, wood and foam,
polyethylene shell with solid core
polystyrene block moulded inside,
fibreglass etc.
Principle of Vertically moving Floating Houses
Scope
• The study focuses on the floating house which is integrated
with a housing structure.
• Comparison with the existing concept and suit our
requirements.
• The floating part has to be the simple float that has the
characteristics of stable and can withstand lateral forces from
the water current3.
Limitation
The study focuses on the Construction Technology of floating house
that includes the floating system, support system, construction
technology.
Conclusion
The rise of water level due to global warming increases the sea level
over the land surface. Floating architecture provides the way to live
safely with the rising water level. Floating houses reduce the damage
due to property and human life significantly. The design is carried out
using lightweight construction materials and the entire structure has
a stable arrangement. This upcoming technology will be in practice in
many parts of the world when the existing land surface is taken away
by the rising water level.
