B. Motivation

Does your body contain heat?


Yes ma’am!
How do you say so?
My body feels hot, so it contains heat.
C. Activity
Let us see if your answers are correct after we
do this activity. You will be grouped into three,
and each group will be given three basins with
water of different temperature (tap water) (cold
water) (lukewarm or hot water). All you have
to do is to place your right hand on the hot or
lukewarm water, and place your left hand on
the cold water for few seconds. Then put your
hands on the tap water. Observe what
happens. Each group will be given one task,
and one representative will present your
answers.

D. DISCUSSION
(After the activity)
Group 1: Explain your observation.

When I placed my right hand on the hot water,


I felt hot, and when I placed my left hand on
the cold water, I felt cold. But when I placed
both of my hands on the tap water, the feeling
has changed. My right hand suddenly felt cold
and my left hand felt hot, my left and right
hand felt differently.

Can you measure temperature by simply


touching an object? No, we cannot measure temperature by simply
touching something. We cannot trust our sense
of touch.
Heat is the process of transferring energy from
a body of hotter temperature to one of colder
temperature. So, does your body contain heat?
No ma’am. Our body does not contain heat,
Exactly! but we can feel if there is a heat.

Group 2: What do you think is the reason why


your right hand felt cold when you put it in the
tap water?

Heat transfers from hot to cold. The energy I


absorbed from the hot water earlier was being
released in the tap water. You feel cold when

It felt cold ma’am. We feel cold if we absorb


energy. My hand gave off energy into the cold
water earlier, so when I put my hand in the tap
water which has higher energy; it absorbed the

On the hot water, the arrow goes toward my
hand because the energy from the water is
being transferred to my hand. On the cold
water, however, the arrow goes away from my
hand because the energy from my hand is
being given off to the cold water.
E. GENERALIZATION AND
APPLICATION

Very good! Now that you have learned about


how heat flows, can anyone give an example
on how heat flows in our everyday lives?
In the afternoon, we feel hot because our body
is absorbing energy from the surroundings.
Our body has lower temperature than the
surroundings.
Absolutely! What else?
The ice has lower temperature than the
surroundings so it absorbs energy from the
surroundings. Thus, the ice melts.
Very good! Who can give one more example?
A coffee has higher temperature than the
surroundings so it gives off energy.
Excellent! Do you have any questions?
None ma’am!
Okay, so let us now have our quiz.
