Introduction
About this book:
This book contains a collection of primer sight word reading sheets intended to be used with
children in Kindergarten (Prep) and Grade 1 as homework.

Repeated reading of a new sight word is important for memorising the word and for
developing reading fluency; therefore, children are encouraged to read each sheet 5
times, colouring an insect each time they do so.

Directions for use:

The primer sight word reading sheets in this packet are ordered so that each new sheet
builds on the sight words and vocabulary learnt in the previous sheets. For this reason, it is
recommended that you introduce the sight words in the order that they are presented in
this book.

There are 2 versions to the reading sheets included in this unit:

The first version (pages 5-48) includes a “New Vocabulary” section in which an image
accompanies each new word. Once the word has been introduced, it will not appear again in
the "New Vocabulary" section on succeeding sheets. It is hoped that, with parental aid,
children will quickly learn to sound out, blend and read CVC words independently, however,
if they don’t, they can search for the words through previous sheets in the “New
Vocabulary” section.

The second version (pages 49-93) is identical to the first, however the "New Vocabulary"
section and the picture aids have been removed. This version is ideal for children who are
learning to read sight words and can blend letter sounds to read simple words.

These sheets may be stored in a homework reading folder or binder in individual plastic
sleeves (pockets), and can be read over and over again to ensure sight words are not
forgotten as new ones are being introduced.

Happy Teaching :)
