Assignment-01

5 Marks
Q1. The expected value of a voltage across a resistor is 80V. However, the measurement gives a
value of 79V. Calculate (i) absolute error, (ii) % error, (iii) relative accuracy and (iv) % of
accuracy.

Q2. A voltmeter having a sensitivity of 1 kΩ/V is connected across an unknown resistance in series
with a milliammeter reading 80V on 150V scale. When the milliammeter reads 10 mA,
calculate the (i) apparent resistance of the unknown resistance, (ii) actual resistance of the
unknown resistance, and (iii) error due to the loading effect of the voltmeter.

Q3. Calculate the value of the multiplier resistance on the 50V range of a dc voltmeter that uses a
200µA meter movement with an internal resistance of 100 Ω.

Q4. Convert a basic D’Arsonval movement with an internal resistance of 100 Ω and a full scale
deflection current of 10mA into a multirange dc voltmeter with ranges from 0 – 5V, 0 – 50V
and 0 – 100V.
