Generator Synchronizing means


parallel operation of generator
with grid.

GENERATOR TRANSFORMER VOLTAGE RATIO= 235 KV/13.8 KV
GENERATOR PT RATIO= 13.8KV/1.732/110V/1.732
220 KV BUS PT RATIO= 220 KV/1.732/110V/1.732
WHEN GRID VOLTAGE =220 KV THEN
GENERATOR VOLTAGE=220 X 13.8 / 235
= 12.91 KV
HENCE GEN. PT VOLTAGE =110 X 12.91 / 13.8
= 102.5 V
FROM ABOVE DATA, WHEN GRID VOLTAGE 220 KV THEN
GENERATOR VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 12.91 KV
1.WHEN GRID AND GENERATOR VOLTAGE SAME:
U = Ug – Us WHERE Ug= GENERATOR VOLTAGE
Us = GRID VOLTAGE
U= 102.5 – 110 = -7.5 V
2. HIGH VOLTAGE LIMIT:
U = (102.5+5) – 11O
= 107.5 – 110 = -2.5 V
GEN. VOLTAGE= 13.8 KV X 107.5V / 110V = 13.48 KV
GT HV VOLTAGE= 235 KV X 13.48 KV / 13.8 KV = 229 KV
U = 229KV – 220KV= 9 KV
3. LOW VOLTAGE LIMIT:
U = (102.5-5) – 110
= 97.5 – 110 = -12.5 V
GEN. VOLTAGE = 13.8 X 97.5 / 110 = 12.23 KV
GT HV VOLTAGE = 12.23 X 235 / 13.8 = 208 KV
U = 208 -220 = -12 KV

PROCEDURE
1. SELF MODE:
1. TURBINE RPM SHOULD BE 3000 RPM.
2. CHECK NO TRIPPING SIGNAL ON GT PROTECTION
RELAY-A AND B.
3. CHECK GENERATOR PT IN RACK IN CONDITION.
4. CHECK WHITCH BUS IN LINE IN SWITCH YARD.
5. ALL CONDITION SATISFIED THEN FOLLOW NEXT STEP.
6. SELECT SELF FROM SELF/TRANSFER SWITCH.
7. FIRST CLOSE ISOLATOR Q 1 FOR BUS-1(Q2 FOR BUS-2)
AND THEN ISOLATOR Q 3 FROM SCADA PANEL IN
SWITCHYARD.
8. SELECT AVR IN REMOTE MODE AND ON EXCITATION.
THEN GENERATOR VOLTAGE INCREASE UP TO RATED.
9. THEN ON SYNCHRONIZER FROM DCS .

MANUAL SYNCHRONIZING:
*SELECT SYNCHRONIZING IN MANUAL FROM
AUTO/MANUAL SELECTOR SWITCH.
*VOLTAGE RAISE AND LOWER BY MANUAL HANDLE
V+ AND V-
*FREQUENCY RAISE AND LOWER BY ADJUSTING
GOVERNOR SPEED USING MANUAL HANDLE F+ AND
F-
*WATCH SYNCHRONOSCOPE ,WHEN WE MATCH THE
VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY WITH GRID THEN PASS
LED GLOWS ON SYNCHRONOSCOPE IT MAENS
CLOSING PERMISSIVE.
*THEN CLOSE 1DL (GT BREAKER) BY USING CLOSE
MANUAL SWITCH.
*THEN CLOSE SYNCHRONIZER FROM DCS.

AUTO SYNCHRONIZING:
*SELECT SYNCHRONIZING IN AUTO FROM
AUTO/MANUAL SWITCH.
*THEN SYNCHRONISER MATCH GENERATOR VOLTAGE
AND FREQUENCY WITH GRID.
*AFTER MATHCING SYNCHRONIZER GIVE CLOSE
COMMAND TO CLOSE 1 DL(GT BREAKER).
*THEN CLOSE SYNCHRONIZER FROM DCS.
2.TRANSFER MODE:
NOTE:TRANSFER MODE MEANS GENERATOR
SYNCHRONIZE WITH GRID USING TRANSFER
BREAKER.
CHECK POINT:
*GT ISOLATOR Q1,Q2,Q3 AND 1DL SHOULD BE OPEN .
*GT TRANSFER BUS ISOLATOR Q4 SHOULD BE CLOSE.
*TRANSFER COUPLER ISOLATOR Q4 AND ISOLATOR
Q1(BUS-1) SHOULD BE CLOSED.
THEN FOLLOW NEXT STEP
1.SELECT TRANSFER MODE FROM SELF/TRANSFER
SELECTOR SWITCH.
2.SYNCHRONIZER ON FROM DCS.
3. SELECT AUTO/MANUAL BY SELECTOR SWITCH.
4.AFTER SYNCHRONIZE CLOSE SYNCHRONIZER FROM
DCS.
