In most of the competitive exams we find the
Questions like :-
• What was the day on 3rd March 2006?
• If the first day of a year (Other than leap
year) was Friday then which was the last day
of the year?
• If 5th January 2011 was a Thursday, then
what was the day on 1 January 2013?
• Which year will have the same calendar as
of 1897?
Important Notes for Calendar
In a ordinary year :-
• 365 Days
• 52 Weeks
• 12 Months
• 7 Days in a week

In a Leap Year :-
Instead of 28 days in February, there are 29 days.
Identifying a leap year
• Any year divisible by 4 (Except a
century year) is a Leap Year.

There is a littleyears + 72
change leap
in the no.years = 228 odd days + 144 odd days
of ordinary years and no. of leap = 372 odd days
years in 400 years. As 400th year is372/7 = 53 weeks + 1 day
a leap year, one ordinary year
= 1 odd day
became leap year.
In a Leap Year :-
February has 1 odd day, as there are 29 days.
Finding odd days in any century year
Divide the century by 400 and if
remainder is :-
• (2100/400)=100 = 5 odd days
• (2200/400)=200 = 3 odd days
• (2300/400)=300 = 1 odd days
• (2000/400)=0 = 0 odd days
Days of week related to odd days
• 0 Odd days = Sunday
• 1 Odd days = Monday
• 2 Odd days = Tuesday
• 3 Odd days = Wednesday
• 4 Odd days = Thursday
• 5 Odd days = Friday
• 6 Odd days = Saturday
What was the day on 3rd March 2006?
We have year is 2006 ==== Date is 3rd ===== Month is March
= 12 odd days
So the year which will have the same calendar as 1897 is 1909.
