Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to

1. Discuss the role of Science and Technology in Philippine nation building


2. Evaluate government policies pertaining to science and technology in terms of their
contributions to nation building
3. Identify actual science and technology policies of the government and appraise their
impact on the development of the Filipino nation

A. ELICIT

Tasks: Determine of prior knowledge. Answer the following based from your own
knowledge.
1. Do you think science and technology have a great role in nation building?

2. Can you write here one government policy pertaining to science and
technology.

3. Do you think it that policy has a great impact to the development of our
country?

4. Are you aware of the sustainable development goal?

B. ENGAGE

Tasks:
Interview a person through chat or phone call connected to the
barangay council, or municipal council or to any agency committed
to national development. Ask them about their goals and if they have
met them. Write below your discussions or conversations.

D. EXPLAIN

Task:
1. Write below one (1) objective of DOST and explain its significance to
the society.
2. Select one of the 17 sustainable development goals and write here its
impact to your life.

E. ELABORATE

Join the virtual class (schedule will be given by the professor) via google
meet for our class discussion. Meanwhile, given in the power point
presentations attached in the google classroom are some insights for you to
read for our discussion in this part.
Some are listed below:
Science and technology policy is one of the public policies that promotes
appropriate funding to advance scientific and technological research and
education, studies the impact of science and technology upon its citizenry,
and prescribes regulation, if necessary.

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better


and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we
face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change,
environmental degradation, peace and justice. The 17 Goals are all
interconnected, and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we
achieve them all by 2030. Click on any specific Goal below to learn more
about each issue.

Government Policies:
RA No. 2067: Science Act of 1958- An Act to integrate , coordinate, and intensify scientific
and technological research and development and to foster invention to provide funds therefor
and for other purposes.
EO No. 366 s. 2004 or the “Government Rationalization Plan”- has 3 sectoral planning
councils maintained by DOST responsible for: formulating policies, plans, programs, projects
and strategies for S&T development; for programming and allocating funds; for monitoring of
research and development projects; and for generating external funds.

1. Make a simple collage of photos depicting science and technology for


national development.

1. Describe your collage in the form of a poem or song or dance routine or


spoken poetry. Submit your output in classwork label it with “Collage
Description”)
2. Write your reflections about the key learnings you gained in this
lesson.
