Tourist Attraction in the Philippines
The Philippines is a country in Southeast Asia blesses with 7,107 island with a total land area of no
more than 300,000 square kilometres, but it boast of a coastline that measures about 30,000 kilometers, one
of the longest in the world. Hence, one of the main tourist attractions in this tropical country is the “sun,
sand, and sea” package. Here are some of the famous beach destinations in the country, in no particular
order.
The Philippines has some great dive spots, too, including Anilao, Apo reef, and the Tubbataha Reef Natioanl
Park, which is one of the Country’s United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
world heritage sites. These sites are special because they are noted for their cultural and natural significance. Thus,
sites must be preserved.
The diversity of Tubbatah’s reef marine life is recognized as one of the best in the world, sea turtles, sea
snakes, dugong, sharks, whale sharks, dolphin and a lot more. The sunkin ships from World war II and the Galleon
trade likewise provide for an interesting dive in several locations around the country.
As the Philippines is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, the country is also home to other natural wonders that
attract tourist. One is the Taal Volcano, which is said to be the smallest volcano in the world. Its “lake within a
volcano within a lake” landscape offers a picturesque view from the cool and relaxing city of Tagaytay. Another
interesting volcno is the active Mt. Mayon in the Bicol region because of its perfect cone shape and height of 2, 460t
meters above sea level.
Moreover, the country has a number of interesting limestone formations such as the Chocolate hills, Hundred
Island, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean National Park or the Underground river, and those in El Nido, coron, Sagada,
Kapurpurawan, Tuguegarao, Minalungao, etc. Limestone is a type of rock that rose from the sea and is mainly
composed of marine deposits. They are attractive to tourist because they exhibit shapes that awe and stir man’s
imagination.
The Philippines has several cultural attractions as well. The list includes those that exhibit a unique fusion of
Spanish and Filipino heritage, such as local cuisines and baroque churches. The four baroque churches of Miag-ao
Chuch in Iloilo, Sta.Maria, church in Ilocos Sur, Paoay Church in Ilocos Norte and San Agustin Church in Intramuros,
Manila are collectively recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The town of Vigan with its cobblestone streets
and century-old mansions is also a UNESCO world heritage site.
These quaint towns of the Philippines burst to life as they celebrate fiestas at certain times of the year. They
include Sinulog in Cebu, Ati-Atihan in kalibo, Dinagyang in Iloilo, kadayawan in Dvao, Panagbenga Flower festival
in Baguio, Maskara in Bacolod, Penafrancia in Naga, Hot air balloon in Clarck, and Pahiyas in Quezon.
