started its venture in the capital and investment managing business about 12 years ago in the year
of 2008 and till date have been going strong at providing quality services by providing solutions
for clients investments through their extensive market experience, skilled manpower and brand
loyalty. It is a sister concern of one of the leading groups in Bangladesh, AKIJ Group, which is a
reputable and leading brand itself in Bangladesh and the Group is well known for providing
quality products and services over the last two decades both nationally and internationally. So
naturally being part of such a reputable group has its one perks in terms of both experience,
reputation and Goodwill and not to mention reliability and trust for the company is unmeasurable
from its client source.

Akij Capital Management Limited in 2018 was recognised as the 44th largest broker in DSE
Ranking which was among 222 active brokers in Bangladesh by securing a trade volume of Tk
15,140.90 million, which was 1.14% of DSE. Currently the company has a total number of
customers around 9,039 and has a daily average trade volume of close to Tk.62.6 million. Akij
Capital Management according to recent statistics has a net worth close to Tk.2088.4 million
currently. Since its started operating back in 2008, over the span of 12 years the company has
opened a total of five branches in Bangladesh, four in the heart of Dhaka in prime locations such
as Tejgaon, Motijheel, Mohmamadpur, Nikunja and one in Rajshahi.

clients in the corporate division, learning from internationally cooperation governance
and their business practises and most importantly growing and enhancing the existing
talented group of people in the country by empowering them with the right platform.

Akij Capital Management Limited has several departments which oversee all the activities
and operations in the firm that helps the company grow and satisfy customer needs by providing
investments decisions wisely and managing the assets and capital for a better and profitable use.

It includes departments like the Administrative Department which handles all activities such as
answering customer queries, organising and scheduling regular activities,etc., Strategic Planning
department that plans marketing strategies to make sales and ensuring that company is making
profit and growing it client base, Finance department that basically handles all activities related
to company’s finance and accounting activities such as drawing profit and loss statement,

Akij Capital Management contributes a good part of its earnings to Akij Capital Sustainable
society Foundation in order to provide for underprivileged children in the society of Bangladesh.
The Foundation is responsible for providing for children who come from extreme poverty or are
orphans with nowhere to go. It provides them with food, shelter and helps to seek education and
other expenses required for livelihood. The organisation also seeks operating and financing
methods to contribute to protecting the environment/ climate from pollution. With these CSR

Internship experience/ observation details
I got the chance to work at the Research and Innovation (RI) site of Akij Capital management
Ltd. I was welcomed by all the officers at the Akij Capital management Ltd. with a brief
introduction of them on day one. Then from day 2, I was assigned a train desk with no task. I
was asked to observe the whole environment and was given enough time to settle in. The officers
delivered very clear instructions about which Job is done by whom as a result in a short period of
time I understood which to report for certain issues. During my temporary position period of 2
months, I have not only worked in the Research and Innovation (RI) department but also
whenever any other department needed some help with their works, they would call me for
assistance.

2.1 Job responsibilities

● Proving any kind of necessary information to my senior regarding all kinds of things
related with the organization
● Responding on my perception of stock
● Checking up the candlestick of any particular stock
● Checking up on stock market and discussing the potential for a specific stock
● Communicating with employees and aminatinging cordial relationships with everyone at
work.
● Performing any other duty assigned by the supervisor from time to time

2.2 Functions of the department

As mentioned earlier there are several departments in Akij Capital Management Limited that
help the company operate smoothly and satisfy their customers. The functions of the department
can be further discussed below in details :
Administrative Department: This department is the backbone of the company as it makes sures
that other departments are operating accordingly or not. Administrative department handles all
necessary operations such as maintaining attendance registers, arranging meetings of the Board
of Directors and other Corporation employees when required, sending decisions of meetings for
better implementation for the specific department, keeping record of office supplies, equipment,
utilities and bills, answering customer queries etc.

Human Resources Department: The Human Resources Department is responsible for the
manpower of the company and handles everything from hiring, training to firing them . This
department is obliged to make sure that the company rules and regulations are being followed by
employees and also draws appraisals to see how the employees are performing and how
performance of employees can be improved, if required. The department also decides activities
like salary scale, promotions,retirement, vacations, transfer etc kind of activities for their
employees.

Marketing/Public Relations Department: As the name suggests this department is responsible

to handle the promotions and sales of the company, such as how to attract new clients to choose
their services and handles everything from advertisements, to building and sustaining customer
relationships in order to make profit for the company.

Investor’s Department: This department handles all activities related to investments of the
customers opening and maintaining the investment accounts, sanctioning any loans required
against the account, providing all kind of documents need for making investments such as
portfolio statement, income take certificate etc, both buying and selling of shares on behalf of
the account holder, processing of withdrawal funds, keeping all financial transaction records etc.

Treasury Department: Treasury Department handles funding sources of Akij Capital

management Ltd. such as long term/ short term/ placement deposits, overdraft facility, lease
deposits etc
Securities Reconciliation Department: As the name says, this department handles any
problems related to securities and provides a reconciliation if there are any mistakes made or
problems that need to be solved.

Finance Department: This department handles the finance and accounting part of the company
and includes everything from balance sheet, profit and loss statement, cashbook and ledgers
required and all those operations to see how the company is performing from the financial
aspects and whether the company is occurring losses or making profit annually and where things
needs to be improved if needed.

Research and Innovation Department: This department researches on potential opportunities

or investments that will be profitable such as whether the client should invest in real estate,
stocks, bonds, equity etc. and when the customers should invest at these places and which might
be the appropriate time to make maximum profit. This department is also responsible to find
innovative methods and maintain them to attract clients such as more technological efficiency by
including real time online platforms for trading or application of IPO forms online. etc.
