Sum Up

Directions: Answer the following questions.

1. How do room air conditioners work?

 Air-conditioning works with the principle of removing heat in a closed space and maintaining its
temperature lower that the ambient temperature. Basically, it is a process of dehydrating,
cooling, and circulating fresh, and sanitized air inside a room for comfort.

2. What happens to the ACU when filters are clogged or restricted?

 Result to poor air circulation and low cooling of the ACU

3. What types of filter are used to condition and sanitize the air inside a room? Explain its purpose or
function.
 Carbon Filter – It filterize the air coming in the air condition and removes the odors.

LESSON 2

Thinking Time!

1. Make a list common tools and materials in removing and cleaning air filters of window-type air
conditioners with their uses.
 Screwdrivers, Wrenches, and Pliers (Dismantling the case of the ACU).
 Vacuum cleaners (To suck dirt inside the ACU).
 Pressurized water sprayers (To wash excess dirt that hard to clean)
 Soft paintbrush (Brushing out the dirt of the ACU)

2. State some safety practices in cleaning air filters.

 Detach the front grill of the air conditioner and remove the filter by carefully pulling it.
 Use a water hose with a moderate pressurized flowing water to wash out the accumulated dust
and lint from the filter. Wash the filter with the cleaner right side up.
 For a badly soiled or very dirty filter, use a mild detergent mixed with wash water.
 Let the filter dry thoroughly before reinstalling.

Activity

Acceptability
Performance Criteria
Yes (5 pts.) No (0 pts.)
1. Air filter is identified, removed, and
checked following the standard
procedure
2. Appropriate tools and equipment are
prepared and readily available for the job
3. Appropriate / recommended tools,
materials and equipment are used in
cleaning the air filter
4. Safety measures are observed in
performing the job

Sum Up

Directions: Answer the following questions.

1. Why is there a need to provide filters for window-type air-conditioning units?

 So that no dirt or dust enter the ACU.

2. What happens to the air-conditioning unit when filters are clogged or restricted?
 The air conditioner will not produce cold air temperature.

3. What type of filters are used to condition ad sanitized the air inside a room? Identify and
describe each purpose or function.
 Carbon Filter - It filterize the air coming in the air condition and removes the odors.

4. What materials or cleaning agents are used in cleaning air filters?

 Detergent soap and water for washing the air filter.

5. How do you keep an air-conditioning unit always in good working condition?

 By cleaning it every two weeks or as needed.

LESSON 3

Thinking Time!

What happens to the air conditioning system if the evaporator is very dirty or badly soiled?
 It will not produce cold air or the cold air will not pass thru. And when the airflow is
obstructed, causing poor air circulatioon and insufficient cooling.

Sum Up

Directions: Answer the following questions.

1. How do evaporators work in the air-conditioning system?

 The evaporator absorbs heat and removes the moisture content of the circulationg air
as it passes through the cold evaporator coils and fins

2. Why is it important to periodically check and clean the evaporator and condenser of an ACU?
 Because without them the ACU won’t produce cool air.

LESSON 4

Thinking Time

How do you spray pressurized water to the condenser and evaporator during cleaning? Why?
 It is for me recommendable to used pressurized water to clean the condenser and
evaporator because by means of pressure it easy wash dirt that is intact on the parts
that it’s hard to reach by hand cleaning.

Activity 1

Direction: Write the basic characteristics of the four types of powder or liquid cleaners and identify
whether they are an advantage or disadvantage. Use the table below for your answers.

b. pressurized water sprayer
c. vacuum cleaner
d. pail and dipper Page 17
ANSWER: B

10. What among the following is an effective, fairly safe, and environmental-friendly cleaner?
a. oil-based detergent
b. solvent
c. acid
d. alkaline
ANSWER: B
B. List down at least 4 basic tools/equipment used in cleaning air filters. Explain the use or function of
each tool.

C. Answer the following questions

1. Explain the effect of “foaming” when a chemical coil cleaner is applied in cleaning ACU condenser and
evaporator.

 Basically when using foam or foaming cleaning is usually cleaning by detergent soap. It need to
form a foam so that the dirt easily absorb by the foam.

2. Why is it important to rinse properly the evaporator and condenser with water especially if acid based
or alkaline-based cleaners are used?

 Because acid and alkaline base is a chemical that maybe harmful in some parts of evaporator
and condenser. It is recommended to wash it thoroughly and immediately.

3. How do you spray pressurized water to the condenser and evaporator during cleaning? Why?

 Use pressurized water to clean the condenser and evaporator because by means of pressure it
easy wash dirt that is intact on the parts that it’s hard to reach by hand cleaning.
