Interview Transcripts

The document summarizes an interview with an English teacher, Mrs. Rima, about her experiences with online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. She discusses using various media like WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom for delivering materials and holding discussions. While distributing materials is easy, assessing student understanding is difficult without in-person interaction. Technical issues also sometimes prevent full class participation. Interview Transcripts

Day/date : 5 April 2021

Place : SMAN 24 KAB Tangerang (teacher’s room)
Time : 13.00 – 14.00
Interviewees : Mrs. Rima ( English teacher )

Interviewer : What media are used for online learning?

Interviewees : whatsapp group, Google classroom, Microsoft teams, zoom, and sometimes

telegram.

Interviewer : what is your difficulty in this online learning?

Interviewees : my difficulty is on the discussion and students understanding about the material,

every teacher can easily give the material to their students but what makes it difficult is to

discuss it with the students, are this students really understand about the material or not ?? it can

be problem if the students can not understand about the material, and the other difficulty is when

we do class on zoom meeting sometimes there are students that can not attend the class because

of bad internet network

Interviewer : how is your English teaching system right now?

Interviewees : I usually give the module and the video explanation from YouTube to the students

and one week after that we do the online class through zoom to discuss about the material, it is

all to make the students know about the material first and they can ask me when we do online

class through zoom, but I usually ask the student one by one, to make sure if they are really read

the module or not. I do this to shorten the time, because if we do the same as the offline learning
it will be not enough, and students can get bored easily. For the exercise is one week after we do

the discussion through zoom.

Interviewer : from all the media that you use, what media that effective for your class?

Interviewees : I cannot choose one, I think it would be effective if I combine all the media,

because if I only focus and use one media it will make the students bored easily.

Interviewer : are students active in the class during online learning?

Interviewees : when we do online class through google classroom, I can know who students that

active, passive or just be the loyal listener. The students that active can be count by finger, while

the rest of them are passive and just be the listener.

Interviewer : what material that you explain and discussed with your students now?

Interviewees : you should know that, during the pandemic the syllabus already changes, the

syllabus is shortened and for the tenth class is only six KD which usually nine KD for one year.

And each semester only three KD, like introduction, congratulation and compliment, and

descriptive text for semester one and for semester two there are recount, narrative, and tenses.

Interviewer : is there are any speaking material in tenth class?

Interviewees : yes there are, congratulation and compliment. I usually divided them into a group

and then they will do a video call, for example in one group there are 4 students and that 4

students will do a video call with me, they will do some dialogue based on the topic that I choose

and I will judge their pronunciation, expression and intonation.

Interviewer : based on your opinion, is interactive learning media are needed now?
Interviewees : interactive learning media are really needed, because if there are no media that

interactive the learning process will be boring.

Interviewer : do you know about the articulate storyline? or maybe you have already used it?

Interviewees : no I do not, I never heard about articulate storyline and never used it

Interviewer : is there any chance that next semester the learning process will be offline?

Interviewees : I have no idea, but if the condition gets better there is a possibility to do the offline

class but with shift system, because if we do offline learning without shift system we afraid that

there would be a new cluster.
