What Teaching-Learning Modality/ies Is/are Being Employed in Your School in The 'New Normal'?

The document discusses the teaching modalities and strategies used in schools in the 'New Normal' brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is reported that modular distance learning through printed and digital modules is the modality employed by most schools. The teaching strategies utilized include the use of learning activity sheets, differentiated and contextualized materials, supplementary reading resources, and integration of information and communication technologies. Home visitation, phone calls, and online messaging are also strategies for synchronous and asynchronous English instruction in this current setting.

TEXT

Most of my teaching strategies being used in this new normal setting are addressing mistakes
in which students could simply identify some erroneous words or sentences from the given paragraph
and experiential learning where they can explore through a safe and friendly environment either to draw
or to write an essay as to continue the approach of ESL.

Modular, Asynchronous, and Synchronous Learning Strategies

Assistance via messenger and voicecall

We distributed modules and we even visit those students who are from far distant place and
it's difficult for them to go to school. I also provide reading materials.

I use the synchronous strategy, giving instructions to learners with the help of modern technology,
and conduct home visit -reaching learners who are technologically behind.

I cannot name a particular strategy that I am using at the moment. I simply rely to the worksheets I have
given to my students. What I am employing in crafting the worksheet is Input, Process, Output (IPO).

Plan and organize thoughtfully.

Since I can't be physically present while they learn, I give them supplemetary materials as
additional reference. I also give feedbacks by writing notes in their activity notebooks. As regards activities,
I make sure my students can relate to them. So I make contextualized ones tailored for them.
Visualization, inquiry-based instruction, ,video mini lessons

Aside from the modules provided from the central office, I also have crafted Learning Activity Sheets
tailored to supplement the Self-Learning Modules. I cannot be physically present to assist my learners
and so I make sure to establish “Teacher-presence” like monitoring and following-up students through
text message, phone calls, and Online Social media site (facebook-messenger).

Providing Instructional Content through SLMs and LAS

Ensuring regular communications through text messaging, online messaging, and phone calls

Creating opportunities for students to regularly receive feedbacks on their outputs

Mastery-based learning

Simplified and student-centered

I let my learners have their Journal Activity since strategies of teachers are very limited this time
due to lack of face to face instruction. This is also to let them evaluate what they have learned from the lessons we
have in the modules.

I give enrichment worksheets to students who are categorized under "fast" learners, and I give
remedial learning activity sheets (LAS) to students who don't make significant progress.
This new normal of teaching limits us English teachers in employing various strategies because the lessons
are delivered via modular. The learning is passive in this new teaching-learning process.
