Lesson 5 discusses regions and regionalization. It defines regionalization as focusing on economic and political processes at the regional level, while globalization focuses on the global level. Regions are formed through common geographical features and political alliances. Regional alliances have advantages like stability but also disadvantages like differing priorities between members. Factors leading to Asian regional integration include trade, cultural similarities, and shared goals.

1. Differentiate regionalization and globalization
- The difference between regionalization and globalization is that regionalization focuses on economic flows and political processes at the regional level, while the globalization also concentrates in the economic flows and political processes but at the global level. 2. Explain how regions are formed and kept together - First of all, a region is an area of land that has common features. Regions are formed with a group of countries that are located in the same geographically specified area or the amalgamation or combination of two or more countries. These regions are kept together with regional alliance by forming regional associations that support regionalism which is are political processes characterized by economic policy cooperation and coordination among countries. 3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of regionalism - Regionalism is the political process that is characterized by economic policy cooperation and coordination among countries. The definition of regionalism is quite pleasing because there is cooperation and coordination among countries which shows that there is unity, however, there are advantages as well as disadvantages when it comes to regionalism. The one advantage of regionalism is that it creates regional organizations or associations that support regional alliance, economic and political stability and even the protection of human rights; one example is the formation of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that promotes stability and cooperation in a politically turbulent region as well as to establish relationships with foreign powers with similar aims. While the disadvantages of regionalism is that the regions have differences in identifying problems or have dissimilar preferences and also there are certain disagreements over issues like religion and gender amongst countries. 4. Identify the factors leading to a greater integration and the Asian Regions - There are many factors that are leading the Asian Region into greater integration, and I believe they stem from Trade, the similarities in culture and lastly the Asian Regions share common goals that they want to achieve.
Lesson 6: Globalization of Religion
5. Explain how globalization affects religious practices and beliefs
- According to Peter Bayer and Lori Beaman’s observation, religion sees globalization as a problem or potential. This perspective of religion is because of the association of globalization with modernization, which is a concept of progress that is based in science, technology, reason and the law, which one must look elsewhere than to morally discourse for fruitful thinking. Moreover, globalization affects religious practices and beliefs because of the emergence of similarity of the languages and cultures of some indigenous peoples. Globalization gives religion, conflicts which strengthens social identities as some do not accept the new realities and turn to religion to rediscover their own identity. In conclusion, globalization has greatly affected religious beliefs and practices, that the religion considers globalization a problem and a potential change as well. 6. Identify the various religious responses to globalization - Globalization brings a culture of pluralism, meaning religions “with overlapping but distinctive ethics and interests” interact with one another. Two of the worlds old religions (Christianity and Islam) see globalization as less of an obstacle and more as an opportunity to spread their religious beliefs and practices that can reach all over the world. However, there are also some unpleasant responses to globalization and one example is the case of Islam, the rise of movements like Daesh (more popularly known as ISIS, or Islamic in Iraq and Syria) that signals the religions (Islam) defense against the materialism of globalization. To conclude, religions around the worlds have some pleasant as well as unpleasant responses to globalization but one thing’s for sure, globalization is here to stay.
7. Discuss the future of religion in a globalized world.
- Religion is quite malleable and has resilience as it has been extraordinary that it outlasted various secular ideologies like communism. According to Samuel Hunting, civilizations can be held together by religious worldviews and with that being said, I believe that religions all around the world are here to stay forever as this religions are our bonds that held us together. Moreover, with globalization, religions will have the power to expand, strengthen and spread their religious beliefs and practices around the world. To sum it up, in the globalized world, the future of all the religions will prevail.
