OBJECTIVE:
The objectives of this open-ended experiment are twofold: first, to design an
experiment to find the Thevenin’s equivalent of an unknown circuit and then to
verify whether the extracted equivalent circuit actually represents the
Thevenin’s equivalent circuit. Then in the second part, designed experiment
will be conducted and data will be analyzed to obtain the desired results.

THEORY:
Thevenin’s theorem states that a linear two terminal network can be replaced
by an equivalent circuit containing a voltage source Vth with a Resistance Rth.
Vth is equal to the open circuit voltage between the terminals and a number of
techniques are available to extract Rth. For this experiment the two terminal
circuit is unknown so for finding Rth we are going to use case 2. In which we
need to deactivate all independent source in the two-terminal circuit. And add
a test voltage source or test current source between the two terminals. In this
experiment we are going to use test current source (1A). So,
Voc=Vth …………. (i)
Vitest
Rth = Itest ………. (ii)

To find the Rth using another method (Special Case) make a short circuit
between the two terminal and measure the short circuit current (Isc). Then,
Voc
Rth = Isc …………. (iii)

Equipment:
1. Black Box
2. Multimeter
3. Ammeter
4. Test Voltage Source (1V)

Procedure:
1. Activate the circuit by plugging it with a power socket. Then measure the
value of Voltage across open circuit (Voc) between the two terminals
with the help of a multimeter. This Voc = Vth.
2. Then to find Rth unplug the device. This way all the independent source
in the circuit will be deactivated.
3. After that, connect a test voltage source (1V) between the two terminals.
4. Measure the current (Iitest) across 1V test voltage source.
5. Find Rth using equation (ii).
6. Then to find the value of Rth using another method, make a short circuit
between the two terminal and measure the short circuit current I SC.
7. Find the Rth using equation (iii).

Data Table To Find Vth :

Voltage (Voc/Vth) 2.97 V

Data Table To Find Rth (Method 1) :

Data Table To Find Rth (Method 2) :

THEVENIN’S EQUIVALENT CIRCUIT:

Comment :
From This Experiment we have learned to transform any unknown two
terminal circuit to a known Thevenin's Equivalent circuit where a voltage
source is in series with a resistor between the two terminal.
--- We have to take all the readings carefully.
--- We need to be carefull while plugging in the black box with the power
source.
--- While measuring Rth need to unplug the black box from the power source.
