OUR LADY OF
CONSOLATION
+ In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
R/. Amen
+ Let us recite thirteen Our Father’s and thirteen Hail Mary’s for all
who are affected by the Coronavirus (Covid 19) pandemic. Let us
especially keep in our prayers those who are experiencing, physical,
emotional, financial and spiritual suffering as a result of this virus. Let
us devoutly implore the aid of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of
Consolation, of our Holy Father St. Augustine, and of all the Saints of
the Augustinian Order.
R/. Direct, we beseech You, O Lord, all our actions by your holy
inspirations and carry them on by your gracious assistance, that every
prayer and good work of ours may begin from you and by you be
happily ended, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
1st Art. – I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth. – Let us consider how Almighty God created from nothing
heaven and earth and all things.
Mary, most holy, at this time when we can become focused on the
brutality of this virus, assist us to open our eyes to see beauty and
goodness within creation.
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
2nd Art. – And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. – Let us consider
that Jesus Christ our Lord, is the true and only Son of the Eternal
Father.
Mary, most holy, at this time when the barrage of bad news can make
us feel hopeless, help us to believe and hope in your Son, and to love
Him with all our hearts, because He is the true Savior of the world.
That, after all, is what the Lord meant by saying, I am the way, and the
truth, and the life (Jn 14:6); that is, “It is along me that you come, at
me that you arrive, in me that you abide.” For when you reach him, you
also reach the Father, because it is through his equality that the one to
whom he is equal can be recognized, with the Holy Spirit binding and so
to say gluing us in there, so that we may abide forever in that supreme
and unchangeable good. (De Doctrina Christiana I, 34)
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
3rd Art. – Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin
Mary. – Let us consider that Jesus is the true Son of Mary ever Virgin;
she conceived Him in her most chaste womb by the working of the
Holy Spirit.
Mary, most holy, listen to the prayers of all mothers and fathers who
worry for the health and security of their families, especially their
children.
O incredible kindness and mercy! He was the only Son, but he did not
want to remain alone. In order that humanity might be born of God,
God first was born of a human. He had to seek on earth only a mother,
since his Father he already had in heaven. Begotten of God, is he
through whom we were created; born of a woman is he through whom
we are to be recreated. The Word first wished to be born of a human,
so that you might be assured of being born of God. (On John’s Gospel,
2, 13, 15)
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
4th Art. – Who suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and
was buried. – Let us consider the passion, death and burial of our
crucified Redeemer, tenderly suffering with Him in our hearts.
Mary, most holy, we pray for all who are enduring physical pain and
death and are forced to suffer in isolation as a result of the coronavirus
pandemic.
About his cross, what am I to say? How can I talk about it? He chose
the worst possible kind of death, so that his martyrs might not dread
any kind of death. In becoming a man, he gave us his teaching, in dying
on the cross he gave us an example of patience. That was his work, to
be crucified; the sign of his work, the cross, the reward of his work, the
resurrection. He showed us on the cross what we must be ready to
endure; he showed us in the resurrection what we must hope for. (On
the Creed to the Catechumens [Sermon 398], 9)
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
5th Art. – He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the
dead. – Let us consider that the soul of Jesus descended into hell to
liberate all those with whom He gloriously arose on the third day after
his death.
Mary, most holy, console those who mourn the death of loved ones
and must wait to grieve with friends and family because of mandatory
isolation.
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
6th Art. – He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God, the
Father Almighty. – Let us consider that Jesus, forty days after his
resurrection, blessed his Holy Mother, apostles, and disciples, and the
faithful who followed Him to Mount Olivet, in whose presence He
ascended into heaven, where He sits at the right hand of his Divine
Father.
Mary, most holy, implore your heavenly Son to come to the aid of all
who work in the health care profession and who selflessly dedicate
themselves to assist the sick, the suffering and dying during this tragic
time.
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
7th Art. – From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. –
Let us consider that Jesus Christ will descend from heaven to judge the
whole human race on the last day.
Mary, most holy, come to the aid of all who at this moment are at the
hour of their death.
Believe firmly what you believe - that he will return. What does it
matter when? Prepare yourself for his coming. Put aside curiosity and
develop trusting love. What does it matter when? Live as though he
was coming today and you will not fear his coming. (Sermon 265, 3, 4)
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
8th Art. – I believe in the Holy Spirit. – Let us consider the most
profound mystery of the Blessed Trinity, and with an act of lively faith
let us believe, that, as the Divine Son was generated from eternity by
the Father, so the Holy Spirit in like manner proceeds from eternity,
from the Father and the Son, and is with them one God.
Mary, most holy, we pray for the Holy Spirit to inspire those who lead
nations and governments throughout the world who, because of this
pandemic, are faced with making difficult decisions each day.
This excellent guest finds you empty and fills you, finds you hungry and
thirsty and satisfies you abundantly. God the Holy Spirit, who comes
from God, when entering into a person, draws that one to the love of
God and neighbor. Indeed, the Spirit is love itself. (Sermon 225, 4)
Quiet reflection
Our Father and Hail Mary.
9th Art. – I believe in the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of
Saints. – Let us consider that God, who guards and protects his Church,
continues to send holy men and women as witnesses to your great
love.
Mary, most holy, we thank God for the gift of holy men and women in
our Church, especially those whose testimony of life we look to in
these difficult times to ignite our hearts to respond in charity and love
to the needs of those who are suffering.
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
10th Art. – I believe in the forgiveness of sins. – Let us consider that the
Divine Goodness is infinitely greater than our sinfulness, and that God
can remit the faults which we commit.
Mary, most holy, we pray for reconciliation in all that divides us in our
world.
Quiet reflection
Our Father and Hail Mary.
11th Art. – I believe in the resurrection of the body. – Let us consider
that on the day of judgement we shall all rise again, each receiving
one’s own body.
Mary, most holy, assist us to obtain a true faith in the glorious mystery
of the Resurrection of your Son, as we await our own participation in
this marvelous event.
Will these ashes one day take on the form of beauty, be restored to life,
restored to light? The bodies of all of us, of me who now speaks to you
and of you who now listen, all of us in a few years will be ashes, and yet
a few years ago we were not even ashes. If he was able to create what
did not exist, will he not be able to remake what once existed?
(Sermon 361, 12)
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
12th Art. – I believe in life everlasting. – Let us consider the ultimate
end of humanity, namely, the everlasting life prepared by God for his
faithful servants.
Mary, most holy, assist us to choose wisely how we use the time we
have on this earth, that we may eventually obtain the eternal joys of
the blessed in heaven.
We shall see, we shall love, we shall praise. Our vision will not fail, our
live will never end, and our praise will never fall silent. Love sings now:
then, too, it is love that will sing. But now it is a yearning love that
sings, then it will be an enjoying love. (Sermon 254, 8)
Quiet reflection.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Finally. – Let us consider God’s saving promise always to remain
faithful to his loving covenant.
Mary, most holy, come to the aid of all who call upon you for
consolation in these difficult times.
Christ is the head of the Church, and the Church forms his members.
What has occurred first in the head will follow in the body. This is our
hope, and with this in view we believe, we hold out, and we persevere
amid all the obstacles the world throws up against us; for until hope
becomes reality, the hope itself is our consolation. But the reality will
come when we too rise again and become equal to the angels, for we
shall be transformed, to live the life of heaven. (Exposition of Psalm 65,
1)
Quiet reflection
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Hail holy Queen,
Mother of mercy, our life,
our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve,
to you do we send up our sighs
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this, our exile,
show to us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, o loving, o sweet virgin Mary.
+ Let us Pray.
Lord Jesus Christ,
God of mercy and consolation,
your faithful rejoice in the protection
of the holy Virgin Mary, Mother of Consolation.
Through her motherly intercession
may we be freed from all evils in this life
and be worthy of coming
to the eternal joy of heaven,
where you live and reign forever and ever.
R/. Amen
+ In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
R/. Amen.
