Unit Overview/Aims
Students will learn the skills and rules of the game of softball. By the end of this unit, students
will be able to demonstrate control and accuracy when performing specialised movement
sequences and skills. In addition, students will apply movement concepts and refine strategies
to suit different movement situations.

5 mins Students will be taught how to hold a mitt. (opposite hand, leaving one finger
hole in mitt free to make the pocket of mitt bigger)

- Students to collect a tennis ball each
- Students to throw ball up in the air and catch to themselves
25 mins Activity
- Students to get into pairs
- Grab a mitt each
- Grab a ball between each pair
- Stand on a cone
- Practice throwing and catching (chest balls, fly balls, roll balls)

Bowitgee – Played by the Indigenous population from the Norther
Territory
Students are to pass the Bowitgee (ball) among each other while
moving with the ball. Group counts number of passes over 60 seconds

- Students to get into pairs
- Grab a mitt each
- Grab a ball between each pair
- Stand on a cone
- Practice throwing and catching (chest balls, fly balls, roll balls)
5 minutes Introduction to pitching
Pitching cues – Facing batter, stepping with opposite foot, releasing
ball in the direction of the target, underarm, aiming between the
catcher’s arm pits and knees
20 minutes Student to get into pairs and practice pitching on the same cones as
the last activity

Tee-Ball is played between 2 teams, goal is to hit more runs
then the other team. Today’s focus will be on throwing and
catching.
25 minutes Students to get into pairs and practice throwing and catching
(chest balls, fly balls, roll balls)
Lesson 2
10 minutes Students to grab a mitt, get in pairs and practice throwing and
catching (chest balls, fly balls and roll balls)
10 minutes Students to grab a mitt, get in pairs and practice throwing and
catching (chest balls, fly balls and roll balls)
Lesson 4
Batter is to hit ball and run to first base without getting out. 3
successful attempts per student before changing with another
20 minutes student.
