    Reflection

    There are different reasons why a person tries to learn a language, could be for work,
    traveling, personal interests or just a hobby. Language learning is relatively easy nowadays
    because of the easy access to learning materials. It also helps when the language you are trying to
    learn is heavily integrated in your surroundings. When you experience a different language every
    day, it is likely that you learn the language little by little.
    As for me, I grew up in a family setting where the Filipino Language is mainly used. The
    English language is rarely used. I can also sometimes hear my mom in a different dialect and at
    times it gets me curious especially when she speaks in a certain way to express emotion. I only
    started to learn the English Language when I started going to school. The continuous use of the
    English Language at school made it easier for me to learn it. I think it also due to me learning it
    at a young age. The experience in learning different languages seems to be different when you
    are young as compared to a grown-up. Also, there is this thing called “Conyo” where you use the
    English and Filipino Language simultaneously, it is quite common in Colleges and Universities.
    Some make fun of it but others naturally just speak that way. As for me, when someone speaks
    Conyo to me, I subconsciously speak the same. Nowadays, I also started learning Japanese not
    because of formal lessons but because of watching various Anime. Even though I do not
    understand the Japanese voice from Anime, it is still my preferred version as I also like learning
    Japanese expressions. It is also quite common to see different uses of languages in social media.
    There are also some slangs or purposely wrong-spelled words for emphasis like comedy.
    The flexible of the language in general brings a lot to communication whether good or
    bad. Since the young nowadays are heavily influenced by social media, it can be obvious as to
    why some speak a certain way or as to where they learn such words. As for the rise of Global TV
    shows, it is understandable as to why people want to learn a different language to further
    understand the said shows.
