DECIMALS - It is a short hand way of writing fractions and mixed numbers
with denominators as a power of 10.

1. Yuan had 368.29. His mother gave him 253.46 and his sister gave him
57.39. How much money does he have now?

GIVEN :

Money Yuan had                                        =             368.29

Money gave his mother                              =             253.46

Money gave his sister                                =        +      57.39

Total money he has now                            =             679.14

2. Leah had 469.38. She gave 99.37 to Sean and 124.93 to Yuan. How much
money is left with her?

GIVEN :

The amount given to Sean                =             $  99.37

The amount given to Yuan               =        +   $ 124.93

Total amount given                         =             $ 224.30

The amount Leah had                     =             $ 469.38

The amount she gave                      =        -    $ 224.30

The amount left with Leah               =             $ 245.08

3. The sum of three decimals is 496.28. Two decimals are 238.94 and
110.09. Find the third decimal.
GIVEN:

One decimal                                       =             238.94

Another decimal                                  =        +   110.09

The sum of two decimals                      =             349.03

The sum of three decimals                    =             496.28

The sum of two decimals                      =        -    349.03

The third decimal                                 =             147.25

4. Elijah had 369.56 , he wanted to buy battle points worth of 1266.59. His
cousin Usher gave him 589.50. How much money does he have now? How
much more money does he still need?

GIVEN :

Elijah had                                        =             369.56

Usher gave him                                   =        +   589.50

Total money he have                       =             959.06

Worth of battle points                     =             1266.59

Money he still need                       =            307.53

5. Kyle had 259.39. Her mother gave her 253.86 and her sister gave her
157.39. How much money does she have now?

GIVEN :

Money Kyle had                                        =             259.39

Money gave her mother                             =             253.86

Money gave her sister                              =        +   157.39

Total money she has now                           =             670.64


1. Max buys 25 books at the rate of 252.55 per book. How much did he
spends?

GIVEN :

Cost of one book                                       =             252.55

Number of books Max bought                     =        x   25

Total spend                            =           6313.75

Answer: Max total spend is 6313.75

2. Peter bought 3 kg oranges and 5 kg apples. If the cost of 1 kg apples is


54.00 and 1 kg of oranges is 98. How much money did Peter pay to the
shopkeeper?

GIVEN :

Cost of 1kg apple                                      =             54.00


54.00 x 5

Cost of 5kg apples                              =            270.00

Cost of 1kg orange                               =         98.00


98.00 x 3

Cost of 3kg oranges                           =             294.00

Answer: Peter pay 564 to the shopkeeper

3. A student earns $11.75 per hour for gardening. If she worked 21 hours
this month, then how much did she earn?

GIVEN :

Student earn per hour = $11.75

Worked for a month = x 21


Student earned = $ 246.75

Answer: The student will earn $246.75 for gardening this month.

4. Rick's car gets 29.7 miles per gallon on the highway. If his fuel tank holds
10.45 gallons, then how far can he travel on one full tank of gas?

GIVEN :

Miles per gallon on highway = 29.7

If his fuel tank can holds = x 10.45

Total of how far he can travel = 310.365

Answer: Rick’s car can travel for 310.365 on one full tank glass

5. Rusell buys 3500 shares of stock for 12.85 each. How much did it cost in
total?

GIVEN :

Rusell buys shares of stock = 3500.00

Shares of stock = x 12.85

Total of cost = 44,975

Answer: Rusell’s total cost for buying shares of stock is 44,975


1. Gwen has a piece of wood that is 8.25 feet in length. Gwen needs to cut
pieces that are 0.75 feet in length. How many pieces 0.75 ft. in length can
Gwen cut from the piece 8.25 ft. in length?

GIVEN:

Piece of wood = 8.25 ft.

Pieces of wood that needs to cut = ÷ 0.75 ft.

Total of can Gwen’s cut = 11 ft.

Answer: Gwen can cut 11 ft. length from the piece of 8.25 ft.

2. Watertown received a total of 12.5 inches of rain over the past 7 days. On
average,how much did it rain each day in Watertown?

GIVEN :

Inches of rain = 12.5

Days of rain = ÷ 7

Total of how much rain in each day = 1.7

Answer: The average of rain in Watertown each day is 1.7 inches

3. What is the average speed in miles per hour of a car that travels 956.4
miles in 15.9 hours?

GIVEN :

Car that travels = 956.4 miles

Hours =÷ 15.9

Average speed in miles ph = 60.1


Answer: The average speed in miles per hour of a car that travels 956.4 in
15.9 hours is 60.1 miles per hour

4. A store owner has 7.11 lbs. of candy. If she puts the candy into 9 jars,
how much candy will each jar contain?

GIVEN :

Store owner has = 7.11 lbs

If put the candies into jar = ÷ 9

Total of candies in each jar = 1.2

Answer: The store owner will put 1.2 candies in a jar

5. Paul will pay for his new car in 36 monthly payments. If his car loan is for
$19,061, then how much will Paul pay each month?

GIVEN :

Paul monthly payments = 36

Car loan = ÷ $19,061

Paul pay each month = $ 529.47

Answer: Paul will pay $ 529.47 for each month.
