2) The 3-phase transformer connected to the generator described in Question-1 is rated 100
MVA, 240Y/18∆ kV, X=10%. If a 3-phase short circuit occurs on the HV side of the
transformer at rated voltage & no load, find
(a) the initial symmetrical rms current in the transformer windings on the HV side and
(b) the initial symmetrical rms current in the line on the low voltage side.

5) A 25 MVA, 11 kV generator with is connected through a transformer, line and a
transformer to a bus that supplies three identical motors as shown below. Each motor has
on a base of 5 MVA, 6.6 kV. The 3-phase rating of the step-up
transformer is 25 MVA, 11/66 kV with a leakage reactance of 10%. The bus voltage at the
motors is 6.6 kV when A 3-phase fault occur at the point F for the specified fault calculation.
(a) the subtransient current in the fault,
(b) the subtransient current in the breaker B
(c) the momentary current in breaker B and
(d) the current to be interrupted by breaker B in 5 cycles.
Given: Reactance of the transmission line = 15% on a base of 25 MVA.
Assume that the system is operating on no-load when the fault occurs.
6) The generators are connected in parallel to the low voltage side of a 3-phase ∆-Y transformer
as shown in figure. Generator 1 is rated 50 MVA, 13.8 kV, Generator 2 is rated 25 MVA,
13.8 kV. Each generator has a subtransient reactance of 25%. The transformer is rated 75
MVA, 13.8∆/69Y kV with a reactance of 10%. Before the fault occurs, the voltage on the HT
side of the transformer is 66 kV. The transformer is unloaded and there is no circulating
current between the generators. Find the subtransient current in each generator when a 3-
phase short-circuit occurs on the HT of the transformer.

8) A 25 MVA, 11 kV generator with is connected through a transformer, line and a
transformer to a bus that supplies three identical motors as shown below. Each motor has
and on a base of 5 MVA, 6.6 kV. The 3-phase rating of the step-up
transformer is 25 MVA, 11/66 kV with a leakage reactance of 10% and that of the step-down
transformer is 25 MVA, 66/6.6 kV with a leakage reactance of 10%. The bus voltage at the
motor is 6.6 kV when a 3-phase fault occur at point F. For the specified fault calculation find
(a) subtransient current in the fault
(b) the subtransient current in the breaker B
(c) the momentary current in the breaker B and (d) the current to be interrupted by breaker B
in 5 cycles.
10) A 100 MVA, 13.8 kV, 60 Hz, Y-connected 3-phase generator with X d’’=Xd’=20% is
connected to a 13.3/220 kV, 100 MVA, ∆-Y connected transformer and to the 3-phase load
of 100 MVA 0.8 p.f. lagging is connected to the transformer secondary as shown in the
figure. The leakage reactance of ∆-Y transformer is 10%. The L-L voltage at the load

terminals is 220 kV. A 3-phase short-circuit occurs at the load terminals. Find the generator
transient current including load current.
11) A synchronous generator and motor are rated 30 MVA 13.2 kV and both have subtransient
reactances of 20%. The line connecting them has a reactance of 10% on the base of the
machine ratings. The motor is drawing 20 MW at 0.8 p.f. leading & a terminal voltage of
12.8 kV when a symmetrical 3-phase fault occurs at the motor terminals. Find the
