What's More: Activity 1 Understanding Speech Act

This document provides instruction and activities related to understanding speech acts. It begins with examples of analyzing speech acts in movie dialog by identifying the character, line, intention, and effect. Students are asked to write a response as if they were one of the characters. Later activities involve filling out tables to identify the speech act, intention, and appropriate response for different scenarios. At the end, there are assessment questions to check understanding of key concepts like the three types of speech acts (locutionary, illocutionary, perlocutionary), classifications of illocutionary acts, and applying this knowledge to respond appropriately in different situations.
