PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course makes SHS students aware of the developmental stage that they are in,
for them to better understand themselves and the significant people around them,
and therefore guide and equip them in making important career and life decisions: decision on
exit path after SHS, course to take in college, and decisions on life, family and other
relationships.

NATURE OF THE COURSE

Personal Development is a psycho-social skills development subject focused on personal


understanding, using the lens of intra and interpersonal learning.
It is a tool in fulfilling one’s potentials as they progress from adolescence to adulthood.

CULMINATING PERFORMANCE STANDARD


(answers the question: What are students expected to be able to do with what they have
learned?)

The learner is expected to be able to know oneself, think critically and make concrete plans and
decisions on the different aspects of his/her personal development; life and significant
relationships and career pathways.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD
(answers the question- What in the long run will students be able to do on their own after SHS?
What real life situation/scenario would SHS students find themselves in by which they could
transfer their learning?)

Goal Your task is to create a Comprehensive Career Pathway Portfolio.

Role You are a SHS graduate who pursues a career pathway (any of the four exits of SHS)
1. Higher Education
2. Business
3. Employment
4. Mid-level skills development

Audience You will convince your family members and academic community (anyone who
would support your decision) of your career pathway choice

Situation The context you find yourself in (your actual career pathway choice)
Product You will create a comprehensive career pathway portfolio containing the
following entries:

1. Career Inventory test result and reflection


2. Career Plan
3. Mock Interview result and reflection
4. Personal Inventory (synthesis of PerDev Journey)
5. Career Visualization

Standard Your portfolio must meet the following qualities:

1. Self Awareness
2. Communication
3. Critical Thinking
4. Problem Solving
5. Life Skills
6. Technology Skills
