Subject: Statement of Purpose
Dear Sir / Madam,
Introduction:
I am delighted to pen down my few words for Statement of Purpose to the honourable
Australian High Commission regarding my application to pursue Bachelor of Business
(Accounting) at King’s Own Institute (KOI) , Sydney, Australia. This statement includes
my social and academic background along with the reason for choosing Australia as my
destination, the course and its value to my future career. I hope it will help you in
comprehensive assignment of my student visa application and spare your precious time to
go through my testimonials. I would heartily appreciate for the phone interview if you
need further information from my side which may not be covered by the statement.
With due respect I would like to introduce myself as Mr. Jasan Bohara , the eldest son of
Mr. Janak Bahadur Bohora and Mrs. Sarmila Bohora. I am a permanent resident of High
School Road, 02 Ratnanagar, Chitwan and my date of birth is 6th of January, 2003
holding the passport no. 10365244. While explaining myself I would like to describe me
as hardworking, confident, enthusiastic and passionate person. My inspiration in life is
my family where humanity is preached as the greatest religion. With the proper guidance,
upbringing and exposure provided by my supportive parents I have grown up to become
an independent, optimistic and career oriented person. I possess helping and caring nature
along with the fascination for books from my childhood days. Once I came across the
book of lady Florence Nightingale whose courage and determination has truly touched
my heart. I am courageous person who believe that a meaningful life is all about aiming
high and working hard to reach that high. I am a determined person with a strong
inspiration to be the voice for voiceless.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:
On an account of my academics, I have completed my Secondary Education
Examination (SEE) from Pancha Kanya Vidhya Mandir with GPA 3.30 in the year 2017
A.D. Then I pursued my +2 in Management from Pancha Kanya Vidhya Mandir Awasiya
Secondary School securing CGPA of 2.50 in +2 class examination under the National
Education Board in the year of 2019 A.D. After the completion of my National Examination
Board of 2019, I wanted to pursue my education in Australia. After, gaining more idea about the
Australian education and visa policy I came to know that anyone can apply for an Australian
Student Visa at any age. But, some special conditions are applied if He/She is under 18 years old
and must have an adequate welfare arrangement. That means I must have a guardian or stay with
a relative in Australia who is over 21 which both was not on my side. So, I just decided to wait
until i turned into 19. Moreover, the spread of COVID-19 came and unfortunately there was
lockdown in my country which was nearly around 3-4 months. As soon as different types of
vaccines were provided to the people and lockdown loosened, I started taking my PTE classes.
Also, at that time I was about to turn 19 years old and i decided to give my PTE exam at 24
December 2021 where I scored overall band of 61 (Reading 54, Listening 64, Writing 65,
Speaking 52).
It was through scrutiny and comparison among various nations, I decided to choose
Australia as my study destination. First and foremost, the thing about the research for
choosing this country as a study destination to pursue post-graduation is that it has the
best global education provider with 8 out of 100 top universities in the world.
Universities in Australia are best known to provide world class education in a vibrant and
dynamic environment. Graduates from these universities and schools have an impressive
international reputation in the Australian education system. The students have a choice
among the 22,000 courses across 1,100 institutions along with various scholarships
options like Vice- Chancellor Scholarship in CQU etc. There is also provision of part-
time work facilities for international students through which they can learn about the
work culture in Australia and learn new skills. Also, the Australian government provides
Post study work opportunities. There is also the possibility of scholarships, which helps
to lower the cost of studying for international students. These facts reveal that the world
class education is provided by the Australian Universities. Apart from an excellent
education system, it has a friendly environment, laid-back nature, and high standard of
accommodation. It is acting as a melting point for the students from all around the world.
Unlike other countries, Australia doesn't require students to take tests like the SAT, GRE,
or GMAT. The climate of Nepal and Australia is nearly the same and it’s easier to adjust.
The climate of Australia is variable as in Nepal. Good weather of Australia really attracts
me. History suggests that a lot of students who were students in Australia have gone to
make a difference in the future, some of them being Nobel Prize winners, researchers,
innovators, and great personalities. Some reasons for choosing Australia are:
● Studying in Australia has got a strong reputation and global recognition so those
graduates from Australia are highly valued around the world.
● I will get international exposure as it provides quality education.
● It is a multicultural country. So, I would get an opportunity to live in a multicultural
environment and get international exposure.
● The ESOS act that governs the protection of international students and delivery of
courses to those students by providers registered on the Commonwealth Register of
Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). Another notable point is,
Tuition Protection Service Act (TPS) in Australia guarantees the refund of the fees if the
institutions are unable to deliver the course and ensure the safety of the student’s tuition
fees.
● I will be able to acquire broad knowledge, professional training, learning skills,
practical based knowledge, and the opportunity to study in a world class environment
with the latest technology and innovation.
● Living costs and tuition fees in Australia are significantly lower compared to European
and American nations.
● Australia is a safe, friendly, sophisticated and harmonious society in which students
can learn and practice.
● The main focus of the student is to study. However, the student is always benefited if
they will be provided part time work opportunity while they study. In Australia students
are allowed to work 40 hours per fortnight while they study.
● Australian government initiative towards Post Study Work visa and I believe that this
work experience will give me deep knowledge about the competitive professional field
that will be invaluable in my future career.
Reason for not choosing other countries like UK, USA, Canada:
Beside Australia, there are other countries like the USA, the UK, Canada, Germany,
Japan etc. which are quite popular among the students for the best education in the field
of Accounting. Among the various countries that I have researched, in USA a student
must appear pre-enrollment test even though the student has successfully completed the
English proficiency test. Besides this, the living expenses along with tuition fees is
comparatively higher than that of Australia. In the context of UK, the changes and
updates in policies for international students occurs in anytime by UK border agency-UK
immigration which can be very problematic for international student like me. Moreover, I
have come to know that many universities and colleges of UK were ceased or blacklisted
and were not able to refund the tuition fees of the students. Also, talking about the
average climate condition of Australia in July it is around 16.3 to 8.1 degree Celsius
while in December it is around 26 to 18 degree Celsius as per
(http://www.noaa.gov). Furthermore, countries like Canada and New Zealand where
there is extreme cold almost for half a year, it only makes sense for me to choose
Australia over these other countries.
On the other hand, to study in countries like Japan and Germany I must learn to talk,
speak and write their native language which would take a lot of time and effort. But in
Australia I do not have to deal with this kind of problems. Even after that I would have a
hard time to adjust in their environment which would ultimately impact in my studies.
Also, their standard of education is not as high as Australia by any means. Australia is a
hub of Asian students due to high level of education, affordable fees for higher level
studies, availability of many different courses, high living standard and so on.
During my extensive research and colleague’s opinion, I figured out Sydney is one of the
top cities in the world for international students because of its diverse culture. As part of
Sydney's global talent hub, the city of Sydney invites overseas students. It has always
attracted people from all cultures, and the city presently has over 35,000 international
students studying in the vicinity. Sydney is ranked as the world's friendliest destination in
the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) 2016 global livability assessment of 140 cities
around the world. Sydney is Australia's most well-known city, home to "many world-
famous landmarks" such as the Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, The Rocks, Sydney
Harbor Bridge, Paddy's Markets, Darling Harbor, the Blue Mountains, and much more.
This cosmopolitan city has a number of intriguing festivals and events. Everyone,
including international students, can attend festivals from China, India, Egypt, Armenia,
Brazil, Lebanon, Greece, Serbia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Poland,
among others.
This is a fantastic opportunity for international students to immerse themselves in
different cultures around the world. The kangaroo, wombat, and dingo are three of
Australia's most interesting and unusual species. While I am studying in Sydney, I would
like to explore all of the known and unfamiliar places during my free time or weekends.
Sydney has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, cold winters, and consistent
rainfall all year, similar to Nepal. Due to its welcoming and sustainable diversity, Sydney
is known as the Australian Silicon Valley for all IT seekers. Furthermore, Sydney is a
well-known Australian city due to its temperature, pleasant and high-quality lifestyle,
world-class recreation, prestigious Universities and Colleges, and ideal composition of
extremely diverse citizens and well-planned transportation infrastructure.
FUTURE PLANS:
After completion of my course, I will apply for my PSW (Post Study Work) visa which
will help to gain more skills and experience so that I can have experience on my field of
study. Nepal
is a fast-developing country where different sectors are still left to be explored and has
great potential for investment. Great opportunities are still uncovered and untouched due
to lack of abilities, skill and lack of educated manpower. The future for any country is
business and investment whereas owning a bachelor’s degree from a highly reputed
university will open door to opportunities for me to grow personally and professionally.
Accounting is a backbone to every business and the scope is limitless. There has been a
massive fluctuation in business and investment in recent years in Nepal after the massive
earthquake. I hope to contribute to make it better through investing my knowledge in
economic advancement in my country. Careers in Accounting can range from entry level
position to executive level.
The business environment is becoming increasingly international, and Australian
business qualifications encourage graduates to think globally in an environment that
merges Eastern and Western perspectives of business and management as well as
Australia’s multiculturalism means that I will have the opportunity to study alongside
students from many different countries, giving you a broad cultural perspective. This
skills and exposures will help me become a prospective candidate in the future
employer’s eye and enable me to work with a higher pay than the local graduates. I can
work in financial institutions such as NABIL Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Nepal SBI
Bank, etc. as an Internal Auditor, Account receivable payable Manager, Credit Manager,
Treasury Controller, and Risk Manager earning a handsome salary of NPR 90,000-
1,10,000 in the initial phase which will gradually increase when time passes by. A
graduate of Bachelor of Business (Accounting) will be able to work in various
departments in a leading renowned company in Nepal like Unilever Nepal, Dabur Nepal,
Coca-Cola, NCELL, Chaudhary Group etc. as an Accountant, Budget Analyst, Tax
Accountant, Financial Planner, Certified Internal Auditor, and Taxation consultant among
another careers path. With time and experience, but my interest is in Accountant and I do
expect my salary to increase and I can see higher prospects as an Accountant in Hydro
projects like Upper Marsyangdi A, Jhimrukkhola, and Lower Modi I. The expected salary
here is above NPR. 155,000 per month.
Looking from an employer’s point of view, a student who has studied abroad is seen to
be self- motivated, independent, willing to embrace challenges, and able to cope with
diverse problems and situations. My experience like; living and studying in a foreign
country, negotiating another culture will all set me apart from the majority of other local
job applicants and make me an outstanding and capable candidate. The above-mentioned
companies are highly renowned and are frequently searching for qualified graduates with
the right industrial exposure which the local degree holder lacks and which I will
definitely acquire after my studies in Australia. There is a need for qualified professionals
in my field and I can apply via newspaper like Kantipur, Republica, Kathmandu Post,
Nagarik, etc. or via website.
In the long run I would like to be a part of change in the Business (Accounting) sector of
Nepal and I would like to prepare myself effectively in time so that I do not stand as a
clay pot but rather be a distinctive candidate to compete with thousands of business
professionals after my return to Nepal.
I was more than sure of pursing my further studies in Sydney, the hard part was choosing
a college that would provide me with the best education and facilities. Picking a college
or institute in Sydney was not easy because there are too many excellent colleges and
institutions to choose from. After spending some time researching
(https://www.hotcoursesabroad.com), (https://www.studyinaustralia.gov.au) I have
acquired a lot of information on King’s Own Institute (KOI).
King's Own Institute is a leading private institution of higher education located in central
Sydney, Australia. Also, I found that in Sydney, New South Wales it is ranked 10th in the
world for its enviable quality of life. KOI has continued to expand its course offering
across advertising and digital media as well as in diploma, undergraduate and
postgraduate courses in Accounting, Business, Management, Information Technology
(IT) and postgraduate courses in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other
Languages).
The courses are taught by qualified and experienced teachers who are dedicated to
providing excellent education to the students. It has also been involved with others
country in teaching projects
and is equipped with modern computer labs and library facilities.
After spending some time on https://koi.edu.au/ I came to know that KOI is Registered
Higher Education Provider under Commonwealth Legislation, regulated by the tertiary
education quality and standards agency (TEQSA), consistent with the AQF (Australian
Qualifications Framework) and listed on the National Register of Higher Education
Providers (PRV12012) , Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for
Overseas Students (CRICOS provider 03171A). Also, KOI meet my criteria as it offers
the course of my interest at very regional tution fee (AUD 40,500). Moreover, its course
structure is very attractive. KOI is a lot more reasonable in Bachelor of Business
(Accounting) comparison to most of the college or institute in Australia. I came to know
that KOI is participating in the Student Experience Survey (SES) which is a national
survey being conducted for the Australian Government Department of Education and
Training.
King's Own Institute has the perfect time table for students no matter what we are.
Studying classes are held over 3 set days each week. This leaves the students with at least
4 spare days to study. For even more flexibility, students also have the option to study
part time and evening classes. After my full research through internet and attending
different educational fairs and seminars conducted by different institution and Australian
Universities, I decided to pursue Bachelors of Business(Accounting) at King's Own
Institute for March 2022 intake. My interest in gaining internationally recognized degree
from highly qualified college and gain knowledge in international sectors led me to
choose Australia for my undergraduate course.
At last, I believe KOI is the major reason for me to choose Sydney city. Sydney is
blessed with natural beauties and has student friendly environment and better facilities
like housing, transportation and entertainment etc. The city has a lot of future prospect for
a lot of Students like me and may find entry level employment as an Accountant,
Business Analyst, Auditor, Financial Advisor and Taxation Consultant after graduation
which will create a good start for my career.
Financial and Living Arrangement:
My family has not only given me consent for education but also assured me financial
support throughout my study period in Australia. Regarding my sponsors, my father (Mr.
Janak Bahadur Bohora), my mother (Mrs. Sarmila Bohora) and my grandmother (Mrs.
Annapurna Bohora) will assist me for tuition fees, transportation, living expenses till the
end of my course. My father works as Supervisor at Sangam Supermarket at
Narayangarh, Chitwan and has annual income of NRS. 390,000.00. (In words:-Three
Hundred Ninety Thousand Only). My mother earns annual income of NRS.
1,478,288.57. (In words:-One Million Four Hundred Seventy Eight Thousand Two
Hundred and Eighty Eight and Fifty Seven Cents only) from Business of New A to Z
Catering Service. Furthermore, my grandmother has been cultivating banana on Plot No.
438 in her own land located at Kumroj, Ward No-7 and has annual income of NRS.
310,000.00. (In words:-Three Hundred Ten Thousand Only). Therefore, the total annual
income of my family members is NRS. 2,178,288.57 (In words:-Two Million One
Hundred Seventy Eight Thousand Two Hundred Eighty Eight and Fifty Seven Cents
only) which is equivalent to AUD 25,376.14 (In words: - Twenty Five Thousand Three
Hundred Seventy Six Dollars and fourteen Cents only). Besides, my mother has also
taken an education loan NPR 4,000,000 from Nepal Credit & Commerce Bank Ltd. I
assure you that my family has stable earning and financial arrangements and will be able
to pay for my education and living expense (AUD 25,376.14) without facing any
financial crisis.
I have attached the financial documents regarding the source of income, property
valuation, bank statement and other documents like tax clearance on my visa application
for your kind referral. I am confident about the financial arrangements made by my
family to pursue further education in Australia.
