Annexure-II
Part B
Title of Micro-Project: - Energy Conservation Campaign
1.0 Rationale:
Energy conservation means reducing the consumption of energy by producing or using
less of it. This could be in the form of using fewer energy services or using devices that
require less energy. Refraining from using services or products is one way to conserve
energy, but this can also be done by using more energy efficient products designed to
consume less energy than their standard counterparts. Energy conservation is a big part
of sustainability and sustainable development.
There are countless examples of energy conservation that we know. These include
flicking off the lights when leaving a room, unplugging devices or appliances when they’re
not actively being used, and cycling instead of driving whenever possible.
Energy conservation is incredibly important for several reasons. Along with reducing our
reliance on non-renewable energy resources (like fossil fuels), it also helps save you money
on energy costs, including utility bills and other energy bills.
Conserving energy also cuts down on expanding development where natural resource
extraction (such as oil or even lithium) is impacting natural areas. When we conserve
energy and use it more efficiently, we directly reduce the amount of greenhouse gas
emissions entering the Earth’s atmosphere
“Students and staff in all schools will work together with our community partners to
become environmentally responsible citizens in a safe, healthy and sustainable
environment. We will do this through the delivery of integrated environmental curriculum
and programs, and by supporting environmentally appropriate behavior and operational
practices.”
Energy conservation is the effort made to reduce the consumption of energy by using less
of an energy service. This can be achieved either by using energy more efficiently (using
less energy for a constant service) or by reducing the amount of service used (for example,
by driving less). Energy conservation is a part of the concept of Eco-sufficiency. Energy
conservation measures (ECMs) in buildings reduce the need for energy services and can
result in increased environmental quality, national security, personal financial security and
higher savings.[1] It is at the top of the sustainable energy hierarchy.[2] It also lowers energy
costs by preventing future resource depletion.[3]
AVAILABLE RESOURCES •
• Put computers, monitors, printers, photocopiers and other electronics on standby or sleep
mode when not in use and turn them off at the end of the school day.
• Use blinds/curtains to either keep heat out in summer or let heat in (sunlight) in winter.
• Close windows during heating and cooling seasons to avoid heating/cooling the outdoors.
• Keep areas in front of vents on walls, ceilings, or windowsills free of obstruction.
• Wear a sweater if cold; dress in layers to maintain personal comfort during any season.
• Use a power bar for multiple electronics and then turn off the power bar at the end of the
day to avoid phantom energy loss.
• At home, buy energy efficient appliances, take shorter showers, use compact fluorescent
light bulbs, have a full load when using washing machines or dishwashers, and use an
outdoor clothesline.
• Use solar cookers.
• Install Rooftop Solar panels on residential, industrial, commercial, institutional, and
government buildings.
• Use solar equipment for domestic use, including lighting.
• Use traditional earthen pots for cold water during summer.
• Use LED lighting system instead of tube lights and bulbs.
• Wash clothes in water at room temperature whenever possible.
• Spread the concept of ‘Energy Soldiers’ in the schools. The soldiers are to monitor
avoidable waste of energy and at the same time educate others about saving energy.
• Use traditional knowledge of architectural design for building construction.
• Apply Green Building practices in new constructions.
• Inform colleagues about energy conservation practices and spread awareness.
• Whenever available use green power generated by the wind, the sun etc.
• Watch TV with family rather than watching alone in different rooms.
• Spend evenings with family members in parks, gardens or open area s for good health,
close bonding and saving energy.
• Service your car, electrical appliances / equipment on time to save energy and money.
GREAT RESOURCES
5.0 Actual Methodology Followed
• Discussion about topic with guide and among group members
• Literature Survey
• Submission of project proposal
• Information collection
• Analysis of Data
• Compilation of the content
• Representation
• Editing and revising the content
Energy efficiency is the wave of the future. An energy efficient home is a personal
step toward the direction of renewable energy, environment protection, and
sustainable living . having such a home helps homeowners reduce their bills and
provides an excellent investment.
8.0 Skill Developed/learning out of this Micro-Project:
There are some key skills we think we developed when performing our electrical machine
manufacturing unit and collect data of various tests on it And application micro project
a. Team Working
b. Presentation
c. Interpersonal and communication skills: At some point of time during project there is
disagreement but finally we managed to resolve conflict in a positive manner.
d. Planning skills: As it was a time bound task we have to finish within stipulated period we
could managed to finish it by distributing work.
e. Report writing
