This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to supervise the systems through which materials are selected, acquired and
stored on site for building or construction work up to and including medium rise projects. It ensures the delivery to the site of materials
that meet contract specifications and service requirements for commercial projects.
To achieve the outcomes for this unit, knowledge of relevant building construction materials and technologies, environmental effects on
materials and testing procedures is required.
Delivery Method
This unit will be delivered using a blended approach. You will be required to attend classes as scheduled in your timetable, complete all
learning activities as set by your trainer and assessor and a range of self-directed learning tasks.
If at any stage, you are unable to complete any of the above activities you must contact your trainer/assessor immediately to make alter-
native arrangements.
If you require further assistance with your learning tasks, please make a time with your trainer/assessor to discuss the topic in further

Once all assessment tasks have been submitted you will receive an overall result for this unit being:
• C – Competent. All the required assessments have received a result of ‘S’ meaning you have demonstrated that you can suc-
cessfully meet all the unit outcomes.
• NYC – Not Yet Competent. One or more of your assessment tasks have received a result of NS meaning that you have not met
the necessary requirements for that assessment.
Reasonable Adjustments
An adjustment is any measure or action that you may require because of a disability, which has the effect of assisting you to access and
participate in education and training on the same basis as students without a disability. An adjustment is reasonable if it achieves this
purpose while considering factors such as the nature of your disability, your views, and the potential effect of the adjustment on yourself
and others, who might be affected, and the costs and benefits of making the adjustment.
We must maintain the academic integrity of a course and consider the requirements or components that are inherent or essential to its
nature when assessing whether an adjustment is reasonable. There may be more than one adjustment that is reasonable in a given set of
circumstances. We will make adjustments that are reasonable and that do not cause unjustifiable hardship to yourself and our organisa-
tion.
If at any time whilst you are undertaking the assessment and you require further clarification on the task or you believe you require an
assessment to be adjusted due to a disability or other impacting situations please speak to your trainer/assessor for further information or
possible options. During the assessment process your trainer/assessor can assist you with gaining understanding of the task, but they are
unable to provide you with the response or any answers.

1. Based on the building project information supplied in Assessment Task 3, prepare a Project Report as identified in the infor-
mation formatted in your Student Workbook.
2. Identify the final selection of materials identified as most suitable by “properties” recognition and ranking.
3. Provide this in a summary Report from the Estimating Department to the builder.
The Materials selected for the project would be more suitable for medium to high end retail commercial project. This kind of commercial
project may include expensive glazing and internal and external finishings. Structural strength and durability scored are high in matrix
solutions. The use of tilt up concrete panels for the carpark would be an expensive option to opt for but it would save labour cost and
result in time saving technique. Whereas, the construction for basement carpark walls which are masonry walls would be more time con-
suming and labour consuming but would be cheaper.
2. Would the building be upmarket high end, or low-cost affordability based on your selection?
This form of material selection mix would be mostly suitable for modern buildings in suburban areas of development where the build-
ing size is medium to high. This material is stylish and can even be used to contruct shopping centers. This is a mix product used in retail
shopping centers like Pointcook, Werribee, Maribyrnong, Pakenham and Sunshine.
