I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. Know and identify the GAMABA awardees and their contributions to Philippine Art;
b. Analyse the practices of GAMABA awardees;
c. Define different art terms related to GAMABA; and
d. State the significance of GAMABA awardees in the millennial time.

Who are the National Artists of the Philippines? Identify their works and
contributions to Philippine Art and culture.
Very good! That will be our topic for today – all about the Gawad sa
Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) Awardees in the Philippines.
3. Activity (15mins)
To further discuss our topic for today, you are going to group (counting 1 to
yourselves into 3 for our activity. 3) (groupings)
I will assign each group to present one contemporary art form. You
have to identify the GAMABA Awardees behind each form and their
works/contributions/practices/expertise. Refer to the chart below:
Group 2, please present your work. (to be In Literature and Performing Arts, Alonzo
followed by Group 3. (5 mins each) Saclag was awarded in 2000 because of his
Kalinga Musical Instruments. It was used
to pattern dance movements associated
with rituals.
4. Lesson Proper
We have several GAMABA Awardees in
the field of Weaving. One of those is Lang
Dulay who was awarded in 1998 for her
tinalak weaving which serves as souvenir
items, national costume and an inspiration
to fashion design.
Who else aside from Lang Dulay as what We have Salinta Monon (inabal weaving),
the 1st group have reported? Darhata Sawabi (pis siyabit weaving), Haja
Amina (mat weaving), and Magdalena
Gamayo (inabel weaving).
How about in the field of Literature and In the field of Literature and Performing
Performing Arts? Arts, we have Samaon Sulaiman, Masino
Intaray, etc.
In the field of Plastic Arts, who are the
GAMABA Awardees and their Eduardo Mutuc and Teofilo Garcia.
