STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP) FOR HOSTEL-COVID 19

CHECKLIST FOR SAFE HOSTEL ENVIRONMENT

5. Whether Thermogun is available to check the temperature of the students and
visitors during entry and exit of the hostel?
6. Ensure that a closed dustbin is available in all places for disposal of waste?
7. Monitor whether students are not gathering as groups in any room?
8. Ensure that students don’t visit other rooms?
9. Are the rooms, washrooms, hostel walls are fumigated done frequently?
10. Monitor that shaking hands, hugging and direct contact is restricted?
11. Ensure students are properly screened when returning from home?
12. Are the emergency services and isolation rooms are ready and functional?
13. Make sure that students don’t exchange their masks?
14. Routine inspection of general health is done.
15. Is proper spacing in all floors and between beds maintained?
16. Ensure trash is disposed of on daily basis?
17. Outside food is not entertained.
18. Ensure that students upkeep their rooms clean and tidy?
19. Whether group activities and social gatherings are avoided inside hostel
premises.
GUIDELINES TO BE FOLLOWED IN HOSTEL DURING COVID PANDEMIC
Preparations for the hostel.
1. Hostels must be cleaned before students return to the hostel.
2. Rooms must be prepared, taking into account physical distancing measures.
3. Rooms, exclusively for sleeping, should be prepared. Ensure beds in rooms are spaced at least 2 meters apart.
4. Hand sanitizer or liquid soap for handwashing must be made available for students to use at all times.
5. Ensure that there is a facility at the hostel to temporarily isolate a student or hostel staff member if needed.
6. Suitable place(s) for students to study or do homework under supervision should be arranged so that social distancing is affected.
7. All students, including hostel staff, must be screened on arrival at the hostel.
8. Hostel staff must be screened every morning.
9. All the information collected through screening must be recorded.
10. Screening at the hostel is separate from screening at college, i.e., students in a hostel must also be screened every morning when going to college.
11. Students are to be orientated regarding health and safety in the hostel during the pandemic.
12. Students at hostels to keep a safe distance from one another at all times.
13. Students should not visit other rooms.
14. Students not to gather in groups in rooms.
15. Students to study or do homework under supervision, in a suitable environment adhering to physical distancing.
16. Students do not need to wear a mask when in the hostel but must wear it when leaving the hostel.
17. Students must be taught how to care for and wash their masks.
18. Students must not use one another’s masks.
19. Staff who do not live in the hostel must be screened every day on arrival and wear masks at all times.
20. Students and staff should avoid shaking hands, hugs and direct contact.
21. Should a student or staff member become ill, the college should follow the guidelines provided.
If there is a suspected case of Covid-19 in the hostel
1. Should a hostel student show symptoms associated with Covid-19, isolate the student must be isolated until they can be collected or taken home.
2. Parents/guardians of the student should be informed immediately.
3. On collection of the student, the parent should be provided with information on what to do when a student displays symptoms of Covid-19.
