What is SealBond™?

• SealBond™ is our preferred spacer system, especially for

formations with loss circulation challenges or weaker
formations
• It can be used as a stand alone spacer or can be applied
as a loss circulation system to mitigate losses while
drilling
• Non damaging to reservoir
• Allows for higher ECD’s and prevents cement fallback

SealBond™ Spacer System Mechanism

• Hydrophobically modified polysaccharides form micelles

• Dynamic equilibrium between adsorption and dissolution

100 nm

SealBond™ Spacer System Mechanism

• When Δp increases, more micelles adsorb and realign in

a layer along the formation

SealBond™ Spacer System Mechanism

• At max. Δp the layer of adsorbed micelles has

transformed into an impermeable seal

SealBond™ Spacer System Mechanism

• A flow from the opposite direction transforms the seal

back into micelles suspended in the spacer fluid

*The concentration of the SealBond spacer concentrate can be increased as outlined above-left to provide enhanced wellbore
strengthening, seepage loss control, when increased rheology is required. (Note: These concentrations are ppb of water not total
spacer. Required loadings decrease as density increases.) When losses can be attributed to larger fractures SealBond Plus should
be included as outlined above-right.

CASE HISTORIES
IRAQ
SealBond™ Spacer – South Iraq (Jul 2014)

• Zubair well (south Iraq): induced losses while RIH casing

• Drilling Fluid Density: 10.25 ppg
• Previous Casing: 13 3/8” @ 2,092 m
• Open Hole size: 12 1/4”
• Casing size: 9 5/8”
• Target Depth: 3,310 m
• Target formation: cover depleted & fractured limestone
~2300 m
SealBond™ Spacer – South Iraq (Jul 2014)

• RIH to bottom and encountered losses, surface level

dropped
• Start circulation:35-70 bbl/hr losses @ 5 bpm
• Pumped 50 bbl 10 ppg SealBond 25 Spacer +SealBond
Plus and let it soak for 30 minutes
• Start cement job with 60 bbl 11 ppg SealBond 25 Spacer +
25 ppb SealBond Plus, followed by 300 bbl 11.5 ppg Lead
and 455 bbl 15.8 ppg Tail
• Displaced as per program. Total losses during job: 70 bbl
• TOC found 150 m above theoretical value

SealBond™ Spacer – South Iraq (WQ2)

• West-Qurna-2 well (south Iraq): losses while drilling and

RIH
• Drilling Fluid Density: 9.6 ppg
• Surface Casing: 13 3/8” @ 970 m
• Open Hole size: 12 ¼”
• Casing size: 9 5/8”
• Target Depth: 2,135 m
• Target formation: cover Hartha formation and bring
cement to previous casing shoe
SealBond™ Spacer – South Iraq (WQ2)

• RIH to bottom and encountered losses

• Start circulation:10-15 bbl/hr losses @ 5 bpm
• Decided to pump SealBond spacer
• Start cement job with 60 bbl 10 ppg SealBond 25 Spacer +
SealBond Plus, followed by 313 bbl 10.5 ppg Lead and 77
bbl 15.8 ppg Tail
• Displaced as per program. Total losses during job: 100 bbl
• TOC found at 650 m (<300 m above required depth)

SealBond™ Spacer while drilling – WQ-2 project

• Drilled at 2435 m and encountered losses @ 60 bbl/hr.

POOH to previous shoe while mixing mud
• Prepare 100 bbl SealBond 50 + SealBond Plus 25 ppb
• RIH to bottom. Pump SealBond through ATK/OTK/LTK at
slow rate
• Circulate slowly to avoid differential stuck
• Losses reduced to 10 bbl/hr
• Able to POOH safely and allow time to mix fresh mud
