About

In 1971, the first Starbucks coffee shop in the world opened in

Seattle, selling whole-bean coffees that had just been freshly
roasted. The establishment had a wonderful spot in the famed
Pike Place Market, and its name came from the 1851 book
Moby Dick, which was inspired by the romanticism of early,
maritime coffee dealers. Starbucks was founded with the goal
of giving customers a sincere and welcoming experience. This
focus was enhanced in the 1980s, When Howard Schultz, the
chair and CEO from 1986 to 2000 and from 2008 to 2017 was
motivated by the romantic experience of visiting coffee shops
in Italy, To this day, the business still aspires to fulfil Schultz's
desire to bring the same experience home and establish "a
place for dialogue and a sense of community" as a transitional
space between work and home.
Social responsibility and sustainability
Community, Ethical Sourcing, Environment, and Diversity are the four pillars on which Starbucks' social responsibility strategy is built.
Additionally, to ensure that their programmes are as successful as possible, Starbucks produces a Global Responsibility Report (in 9
different languages!) that disseminates information showing the impact they have made over the past year.
