A. Preparation
a. Prayer
Before we start, everybody stand for a prayer. Our father … Amen.
Rudylyn kindly lead.
b. Greetings!
Good morning, class! Good morning, ma’am!
c. Checking of Attendance
Say present if your name is called. ( All participated )
d. Motivation
Before we proceed to our new topic this morning, let’s
have first an activity.
(Expected answers)
Evaluate 2x+5 if:
1. x=5 1. 2(5)+5= 15
2. x=-4 2. 2(-4)+5=-3
3. x= -7 3. 2(-7)+5= -9
4. x= 0 4. 2(0)+5 =5
5. x= 13 5. 2(13)+5= 31
Very Good!
Can you still remember the properties of equality class? Yes ma’am.
B. Presentation
Fasten your seatbelts and be with me this
morning as we are going to discuss solving linear
equation and inequalities algebraically.
Everybody read!
“Solving Linear Equations and Inequalities
Algebraically”
a. Statement of the aim
Listen to me attentively class because at the end of the
discussion you are expected to:
a. identify and apply the properties of equality;
b. solve linear equations and inequalities
algebraically;
c. apply linear equations and inequalities in real life
situations.
C. Generalization
Now let’s proceed in finding solutions to
equations and inequalities using the proreties of
equality.
Solving an equation and inequality means finding the
value/s of the unknown variables (such as x) so that the
statement becomes true.
Steps in Solving linear equations and inequalities :
Step 1:
Simplify both sides of the equation using the order of
operations and combine all like terms on the same side
of the equal sign.
Step 2:
Use the appropriate properties of equality to combine
like terms on opposite sides of the equal sign. The goal
is to obtain the variable term on one side of the
equation and the constant term on the other.
Step 3:
Check to see if the answer solves the original equation
D. Discussion
Solution :
What property of equality did we used in the second x-4=8
row? x-4+4=8+4
x=12
Very good!
Addition property ma’am.
Okay let’s check the solution using the substitution
property of equality.
X=12 x-4=8
12-4=8
8=8
Since 8=8 is true, therefore x=12 is the correct solution
to the equation.
Ok Ellen.
4x+7=x-8
4x+7+(-7)=x-8+(-7)
4x=x-15
4x+(-x)=x-15+(-x)
3x=-15
That’s right! 3x/3 = 15/3
X=5
Now let’s have another example, solving inequalities.
Ex.5 x+3<7
What property of equality are we going to use with
this?
x+3-3<7-3
x<4 Add -3 from both sides ma’am.
All right!
E. Application
Let’s have an activity, I will group you into two. I
will provide two equations . all you have to do is solve
the equations and post it on the board . Choose one
representative of your group that will present your
answer.
(Expected answer)
1. 3x+4 = 5x-2
2. 5x+20=55 1.) 3x+4 =5x-2
3x-5x=-2-4
-2x/-2 =-6/-2
X=3
2.) 5x+20=55
*Values Integration 5x=55-20
Class a while ago, we discuss about solving linear 5x/5 = 35/5
equations and inequalities algebraically, right? X=7
IV. Evaluation
Direction: In a 1 whole sheet of paper, solve the following equations and include all your
solutions.
1. -6y-4=16
2. 3x+4=5x-2
3. x-4-4x=6x+9-8x
V. Assignment
Write in a 1/2 crosswise. Solve the equations and show your solution.
1. 5x-4(x-6)=-11
2. 4(2a+2.5)-3(4a-1)=5(4a-7)
