Polynomials DLP

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching polynomials to 7th grade mathematics students. The objectives are to define polynomials and the rules for operations on polynomials, including multiplying a polynomial by a monomial and multiplying binomials using the FOIL method. The lesson plan outlines reviewing adding and subtracting polynomials before teaching multiplying polynomials. It provides examples of multiplying a monomial by a polynomial and multiplying binomials, step-by-step. Students will work in groups to practice multiplying polynomials. The goal is to develop students' critical thinking, collaboration, and mathematical skills.

DETAILED LEESON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

PREPARED BY: JONAVEL T. LIBIRAN

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 90% of the students will be able to;
a. Define Polynomials and the rules involving operations on Polynomials
b. Multiplying Polynomials such as
- polynomial by a monomial
- binomials by binomials using FOIL method

II. Subject matter:

Topic:
a. Multiplying Monomial by a Polynomial
b. Multiplying two binomials using FOIL method

Module5.pdf
Materials: Visual aids, chalkboard, chalks
Values: To develop the critical thinking, collaboration, determination
and patience of the students.

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Learning Activities

1. Prayer
Everybody stand up and let us pray.

(The teacher will call one student to lead

the prayer)
Our Father, Who art in heaven……..
2. Greetings
Good morning, class!
Good Morning, Ma’am Jona!
Before you take your seat, kindly pick
(The students will arrange their chairs and pick up
up the pieces of paper on the floor and
the pieces of paper)
arrange your chairs properly.

3. Checking of Attendance

Class monitor, is there any absent for

today? None, There is no absent today Ma’am.

A. REVIEW
Ma’am, our previous lesson is about Adding and

mind that in adding polynomials, you can only add

C. Lesson Proper
(STUDENTS LISTEN ATTENTIVELY)
Our lesson for today, is about Multiplying
Polynomial by a Monomial and Multiplying
Two Binomials.
Ma’am, Check if the quadratic equation is in the
MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS standard form ax2 + bx + c = 0
Unlike the processes of addition and
subtraction, multiplication of
polynomials considers not only the numerical
coefficients but also the
literal coefficients.

Rules in Multiplying Polynomials Ma’am, Factor the Quadratic equation

Monomial by a Polynomial
To multiply a monomial with a polynomial, (x – 6) (x – 2) = 0

simply apply the distributive

property and follow the rule in multiplying
monomial by a polynomial.
Multiplication of monomial by a polynomial Ma’am, Apply the ZERO PRODUCT PROPERTY
could also be done vertically. In the examples (ZPP) by setting each factor of the quadratic
below, the solutions are presented into two equation equal to zero.
ways:
x-6 = 0 x-2 = 0
Examples:
1. (3x) (x2 − 5𝑥 + 7)

Solutions Ma’am, Solve each resulting equation.

x–6=0
equation is in the form +6 +6
ax2 + bx + c = 0, we’re going to proceed to x=6
our step 2.
x–2=0
What is our second step? +2 + 2
x= 2

If a given quadratic equation is of the form

x2 + bx +c = 0, expressed the factored form as
(x+m) (x+n) where m+n = b and mn = c.
Ma’am, Check the values by substitution.

What is our third step?

x2 - 8x + 12=0
(6)2 – 8(6) + 12=0
36 – 48 + 12=0
The Zero Product Property simply states that if -12+12=0
ab=0, then either a=0 or both b=0 0=0

What is our fourth step?

x2 - 8x + 12=0
(2)2 – 8(2) + 12=0
4 – 16 + 12=0
-12+12=0
0=0

Nice! Step 1:
x2-3x-4=0
And for our last step?

Step 2:
(x-4) (x+1) = 0

Step 3:
x-4=0 x+1=0

Step 4:
x–4=0
+ 4 +4
x=4
x+1=0
- 1 1
x = -1

Step 5:
Example 2 (4)2-3(4)-4=0
16-12-4=0
x2 -3x-4=0 4-4=0
0=0

(1)2-3(-1)-4=0
1+3-4=0
4-4=0
0=0

Step 1:
x2 +11x+30=0

Step 2:
(x+5)(x+6) = 0

Step 3:
x+5=0 x+6=0

Step 4:
x+5=0
- 5 -5
x = -5
x+6=0
- 6 -6
x = -6
Step 5:
(-5)2 +11(-5)+30=0
25-55+30=0
-30+30=0
Example 3 0=0

x2 +11x+30=0
(-6)2 +11(-6)+30=0
36-66+30=0
-30+30=0
0=0

x2 +8x+ 7=0 x2 +10x+16=0

(x+1) (x+7) (x+8) (x+2)

x2 +10x+24=0 x2 +10x+21 =0

(x+4) (x+6) (x+3) (x+7)

D. Application

Let’s have now a group activity. I learned that that the product of a positive

 Each group will be given a quadratic
equation.
 They need to solve on their table for
the factors and solutions of the given
quadratic equation.
 Once your group is finished, one
representative will find the factors of
their quadratic equation on the table
to solve the puzzle picture.
 If your group is done, you will post
your answer on the board.
 One representative from each group
will explain their answer.
Note: First two groups to present the 1. Check if the quadratic equation is in the

additional 3 points on the quiz. 2. Factor the Quadratic equation
3. Apply the ZERO PRODUCT PROPERTY (ZPP) by
setting each factor of the quadratic equation

equal to zero.
4. Solve each resulting equation.
Let’s consolidate our lesson for today.
5.Check the values by substitution.
Now class what are the things that you have
learned and should remember in multiplying
polynomials?
That’s right!!

For further understanding, let’s have a quiz

about our topic.
