ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I'd like to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone who

assisted me in completing my 420 hours of on-the-job training in Fliteline.
Especially my family and friends, as well as my girlfriend, who supports and
believes in me. Also, to our Almighty God, who always guides me in my work as
an Aircraft Mechanic trainee.

I would like to thank Fliteline Aviation Services for letting me conduct my

On-The-Job Training at their Facility and the line maintenance workers who helped
and guided me in training. To my On-The-Job Training Supervisor, Sir Elnar
Ollano, It is an honour to be his trainee. He shares a lot of knowledge about aircraft
and engines. He is the one who inspires me to work and strive more in Aviation. I
want to acknowledge my co-trainees in fliteline because, without my co-trainees, I
wouldn’t enjoy my training.

Besides Fliteline personnel, I would also like to express my deepest

gratitude to my coordinator and Aircraft Maintenance Technology OJT instructor,
Sir Carl Michael Aguilar, for giving us important advice and knowledge from the
start to the finish of this semester.

DEDICATION

I dedicate this accomplishment to people who trust and support me in

becoming an Aircraft Mechanic. This completion of On-The-Job Training serves as
an inspiration to aspiring mechanics.

INTRODUCTION

The Philippine State College of Aeronautics gives the privilege to 4th year
BSAMT students to pick their preferred Host Training Establishment (HTE) or
airline aviation company to conduct the 420 hours of On-The-Job Training or
Internship. On-The-Job Training is the key to success in the Aviation industry
because it is a stepping stone to becoming an aircraft mechanic.

On-The-Job Training is an essential tool for gaining an experience in the

field of aviation, from four walls of the classroom to a big room full of actual work.
That’s how I describe being a trainee. Wherein a trainee will experience a real-life
situation. It is also a way to feel the first-hand experience of being an Aircraft
Mechanic.

On-The-Job Training is my stepping stone in gaining experience which is

why I consider several factors in choosing HTEs as the facility to conduct my On-
The-Job Training. Prices offered, suggestions and company backgrounds, or
reputations were all taken into account. I considered other companies because
they offered free training, but their locations appeared to be far from where I live,
so I did not pursue training with them.

Fliteline Aviation Services offered a range of programs and activities that

caught my attention due to the low-cost training fee. And I chose Fliteline because
four of my closest colleagues highly recommended it. I also considered Fliteline to
be one of my choices because of its reputation and how they handle and cares for
its students/trainees, providing them with the needs, knowledge, and experience
we need.

NARRATIVE REPORT

This section discusses what I do during my 420 hours of On-The-Job

Training at my chosen aviation company, Fliteline. And I will tackle my
challenges/problems as a first-time aircraft mechanic. I will input as well as the
recommendations that I can give on how to overcome those challenges.

Learnings

During my On-The-Job Training days in Fliteline, I learned a lot, from

techniques of safety wiring to doing 50/100 hours of inspection. But the task that I
usually do is refuel, marshal, and tow the aircraft back to the hangar.

I learned a lot of new things as a trainee at Fliteline, like discovering new

tools and other knowledge that a school cannot teach. So I learned how to use the
tool and how to apply the specific tools in the field. I also noticed that using those
tools requires skills, not just knowledge. I also learned the proper technique for
using each tool so that I could use them properly.

I also learned that every mechanic is not always working with aircraft but
also with papers. Mechanics should write in the logbook what they’ve done on the
aircraft, whether they have done 50 or 100 hours or an annual maintenance
inspection. I learned that logbooks are essential in aircraft mechanics because
they are where they will know when the aircraft will be scheduled for a maintenance
inspection.

And most of my learnings from my seniors are applied during my training

days. I enjoy it because I feel like playing sometimes. Although sometimes I make
mistakes like over-torquing the spark plug and something like that. But all in all, I
learned a lot with this On-The-Job Training program.

Problems/Challenges Encountered

I rarely have problems during my training days, but the most common is
refueling because I always overfill the aircraft. I always have trouble marshalling
the aircraft during the first week of my On-the-Job Training because I forget which
hand to wave to make the aircraft taxi properly.

I'm having a similar issue with safety wiring. When I safety wires something,
I keep making mistakes, and before I finish, I have two broken safety wires. And I
made a mistake with the spark plug torquing once, over-torquing the spark plug for
the first time.

As I’ve enjoyed my On-The-Job Training, I also enjoy learning new things,

and to avoid making mistakes, I always ask first before I make a move or take
action on the task that is given to me. Although it makes me slow, the important
thing is that I learn and do the job right.

Recommendations

Fliteline Aviation Services has provided me with excellent training in

preparation for the professional world I will soon enter. Every day, I have been
allowed to learn new things and apply what I have learned in school, which I value.
The only suggestion I have for Fliteline is to build a briefing facility where seniors
can teach trainees before deploying them to each of Fliteline's hangars.
Nonetheless, I strongly recommend Fliteline as a training facility for newbies
because that is where trainees gain experience as aircraft mechanics.
