DIVISIBILITY RULES:
A number is divisible by a number if they can be divided exactly without any
remainder.
Divisible by 2 – a number is divisible by 2 if the number ends in even number.
( 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 )
Ex. 2, 346 – the last digit 6 is an even number and if you divide it by 2 it is
exact and no remainder.
1, 912 this is an even number.
Divisible by 3 – a number is divisible by 3 if the sum of the digit in a number can
be divided by 3.
Ex. 45, 612
Add 4 + 5 + 6 + 1 + 2 =18. Then divide 18 ÷ 3 = 6.
So 45, 612 is divisible by 3
Ex. 999 – 9 + 9 + 9 = 27 and 27 ÷ 3 = 9
Divisible by 4 – a number is divisible by 4 if the last two digits can be divided by
exactly 4 or if the last two digits ends with two zeros.
Ex. 928 = the last two digit is 28 divide by 4 is 7 so 928 is divisible by 4.
300 the last two digit are two zeros it is divisible by 4.
Divisible by 5 – the number is divisible by 5 if the number ends with 5 and 0.
Divisible by 6 – a number is divisible by 6 if the number is divisible by both 2 and
3.
Ex, 1,932 – the last digit is 2 and it is even number which is divisible by 2.
1 + 9 + 3 + 2 = 15 ÷ 3 = 5
Therefore 1,932 is divisible by both 2 and 3.
Divisible by 8 – a number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits can be divided
equally by 8 or ends with three zeros.
Ex. 2, 816 – 816 can be divided equally by 8.
4,000 is divisible by 8.
Divisible by 9 – a number is divisible by 9 if the sum of the digit can be divide by
9.
Ex. 19, 620 – 1 + 9 + 6 + 2 + 0 = 18 ÷ 9 = 2 so 19, 620 is divisible by 9.
Divisible by 10 – a number is divisible by 10 if the number ends in 0.
