Good morning class!
Good morning Ma'am!
3. Classroom management

Before you take your seat, kindly pick all the

pieces of paper and messy things around your
place, and arrange your chairs properly. (The students will pick up the pieces of trash and will
arrange their chairs properly. Then, the students will
take their seats.)

You may now take your seats and prepare

yourself for today's lesson.
4. Checking of Attendance
Is everybody present today?
Yes Ma'am, no one is absent!
Okay very good! Since everybody are present
today, give yourselves five claps!

Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

5. Classroom Rules

For our rules and policies, during our discussion,

here are the rules that you need to follow.
Everybody please read.
Rules and Policies
1. Do not use your cellphone.
2. Raise your hand if you want to answer.
3. Be participative.

Did you understand class?

Yes Ma'am.
6. Checking of Assignment

Class, yesterday I gave you an assignment. Now,

let’s check it.

In tossing a coin twice, find the following:

a. Probability of getting two heads or two tails
a. P (A U B) = P (A) + P (B) – P (A intersection B)
= 1/4 + ¼ - 0/4

b. Probability of getting a tail and head or two
heads b. P (A U B) = P (A) + P(B) – P (A intersection B)
= 2/4 + ¼ - 0/4

B. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting
new lesson

To have a review about our last topic, may I call

________ to tell me the symbol of a union.
U Ma’am.
Very good. How about the symbol for
intersection? Yes, _______.

Correct. Again, how many face cards to we have ∩ Ma’am.

in a deck of cards? Yes, ______.

Excellent. How about black cards? Yes, ______. 12 Ma’am.

Explicit. How about red cards? Yes, _______. 26 Ma’am.

Nice. How about number cards? Yes, ______. 26 Ma’am.

Good job. How about heart cards? Yes, ______. 40 Ma’am.

PEDRO V. PANALIGAN MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Comunal, Calapan City /0936 – 943 – 9875/ pedro_panaligan1998@yahoo.com
13 Ma’am.
Okay. If you truly understand, what is the
probability that I draw a red card or a queen?
Yes, ______.
7/13 Ma’am.
Very good. How about the probability that I draw
an ace or a heart card? Yes, _______.
4/13 Ma’am.
Good job.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new

lesson.

(Motivation: STOPLIGHT)

Are you ready for another activity?

Yes, Ma’am
Motivational activity: STOPLIGHT

Class, who knows how to ride here?

Yes, Ma’am
So, I guess you already know the stoplight. That
there is a signal when to stop or when to go.

Now we are going to play that game but this time

we will going to use a die. You will be divided by
two and I need one representative for each group
to roll a die.

How to play:

1. Each player will roll the dice, whatever they

get, that is the number they have to move from
each tile.
2. The Yellow Tile
When you land on the yellow tile, you have to
move 2 tiles back.
3. The Red Tile
When you land on the red tile, you must pick up
a card and answer it correctly. If answered
incorrectly, you go back one tile.
4. The Green Tile
The Green tile has no consequence.
5. The first group to get to the space that says
'home' is the winner.

Let’s start!
Yes, Ma’am.

(The game starts and end with one group emerging

as a winner)
D. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

That is related to our topic for today. Continuation

of the Probability of a Union of Two Events is our
lesson for today and this is our learning
objectives. Can you read it altogether?
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able
to:

1. illustrate probability of a union of two

events,
2. solve for the probability of a union of two

Comunal, Calapan City /0936 – 943 – 9875/ pedro_panaligan1998@yahoo.com
events;
3. appreciate the real-life application of
probability of a union of two events.

So, these are the learning targets that we

must achieve at the end of the lesson.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new
skills. #1

Class, please read this problem.

Kath and DJ conducted an interview with 50 men
and 50 women. They asked if they are single, in a
relationship but not married or married and these are
the result:

Single In a Married Total

Relationship
Men 13 20 17 50
Women 12 18 20 50
Total 25 38 37 100
Okay, now the question is if they want to
interview them again and pick randomly, what is
the chance that they pick:

a. a man or a single person? Yes, ______.

31/50, Ma’am.
Correct. How about b. a woman or a married
person? Yes, _______.
87/100, Ma’am.
Very good. How about c. a man or a person in a
relationship? 17/25, Ma’am.

Good job. How about d. a woman or a single

person or a married person?
4/5, Ma’am.

Excellent. Are there any questions regarding

these problem?
None Ma’am.

Discussing new concept and practicing new

skill #2

Let’s have another example. Everybody please

read.
Donny and Belle conducted an interview in their
university campus. They ask the average grades of
20 male students and 30 female students and these
are the result:

75-85 86-95 96-100 total

male 5 12 3 20
female 3 20 7 30
total 8 32 10 50
Okay, if they will interview another person, what
is the probability that will fit on these categories:

a. A male or an 86-95 performer. Yes, ______.

4/5 Ma’am.
Very good. How about letter b. A female or a 75-
85 performer. Yes, _______. 7/10 Ma’am.

answer the following questions. Show your
solutions.

Direction: Answer the problem. Show your

solutions.

PEDRO V. PANALIGAN MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Comunal, Calapan City /0936 – 943 – 9875/ pedro_panaligan1998@yahoo.com
Empoy and Alex de Rossi made a movie titled
“Kita Kita”. A cinema listed their costumers in a
table in term of age and gender. The table is
shown below:
26 &
15-18 19-25 total
above
Male 20 29 16 65
Female 24 39 27 85
Total 49 63 43 150

What is the chance to randomly pick a seat who

will win a prize that it turns to be:
a. a male or a 26 & above costumer
b. a female or a 15-18 costumer
c. a male or a 19-25 costumer
d. a female or a 15-25 costumer

Do you have any questions?

None, Ma’am!

You may start answering now.

(The students will answer the worksheet on a one-

half sheet of paper.)

(The teacher will give enough time to finish

the short quiz)

Okay, finished or not finished, pass your

paper.

Now who can answer on the board for letter

a, b, c and d? Yes, _____, _______,
_______, and ________.

a. P(AUB) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A∩B)

= 65/150 + 43/150 – 16/150
= 108/150 – 16/150
= 92/150 or 46/75

b. P(AUB) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A∩B)

= 85/150 + 49/150 – 24/150
= 134/150 – 24/150
= 110/150 or 11/15

c. P(AUB) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A∩B)

= 65/150 + 63/150 – 29/150
= 128/150 – 29/150
= 99/150 or 33/50

d. P(AUB) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A∩B)

= 85/150 + (49+63)/150 – (24+39)/150
= 197/150 – 63/150
= 134/150 or 67/75
