KINDERGARTEN BLOCKS OF TIME

I.OBJECTIVES:
At the end of lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify animals and their movements.
2. Differentiate and group the animals on how they move.
3. Demonstrate the different movements of different animals in the community.
II.SUBJECT MATTER
Content Focus: We have animals in the environment.
Materials: printed pictures, video clip, worksheets, speaker, and projector
References: Kindergarten Teacher’s Guide, Sibol, ICC Kindergarten the K to 12 Way Revised
Edition
Teaching Strategies Used: Cooperative Learning, Technology in the Classroom, Inquiry-Based
Instruction, Play-Based Approach and Demonstrating.

III.PROCEDURES
Arrival Time:
 Children are greeted as they arrive.
 Opening Prayer
 Exercise- Let’s Get Fit (Counting 1-100)
 Whether Check- Song: Ang Panahon by Techer Cleo & Kids
 Day Check-Song: Pito-Pito by Teacher Cleo & Kids
 Attendance Check:
 Health Check:

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson.


Meeting Time 1: Review of concepts learned the previous week/day. Introduction of message for
the day by asking the guide questions below.

The teacher will show pictures of animals that live on land, in water and on air. Let the pupils
name the animals and group them according to where they live.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson/ Motivation

 Introduces the Topic for a day: Animal Movement


MESSAGE: Animals move in different ways.
QUESTION/S: How do animals move? * Land animals walk/crawl/hop * Water animals
swim * Air animals fly

TRANSITION TO WORK PERIOD 1:


The teacher gives instructions on how to do the independent activities, answers any questions,
and tells the learners to join their group and do the assigned tasks.
Song: Animals in Action/Movement by Jack Hartmann
Work Period 1:
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson.
 Teachers Supervised Activity: Classification Chart: Animal movements.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1.

 Group Activity: Divide the group into 3 groups. Distribute the activity to the group and
give proper instructions before starting the activity.

Yellow Group: Animal Puzzle:


Procedure:1. Let the children solve the puzzle and demonstrate the ways in which animals
move.
Blue Group: Animal Dice:
Procedure: Each player takes turns rolling the dice and if the player lands on a picture showing an
animal, s/he will demonstrate the ways in which animals move.
Pink Group: Animal Mask:
Procedure: Let the learners wear the animal mask and demonstrate the ways in which animals
move.

E. Finding practical applications of concepts.


TRANSITION TO MEETING TIME 2: The teacher reminds the learners about the time left in
Work Period Time 1 around 15 minutes before Meeting Time 2. After 10 minutes, the teacher
tells the learners to start packing away the materials they used.

Meeting Time 2:
Let the learners present their work.

F. Generalizing about the lesson.


The teacher will ask: How do animals move?

IV. EVALUATION
Independent Activity: Match the animals to the way they move.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Cut out and paste pictures of animals that can walk/run, hop/jump, crawl, swim and fly.

TRANSITION TO SUPERVISED RECESS: The teacher commends the learners for the work
they did in Work Period Time 1 and tells them to prepare for recess time by washing their hands.
Encourage sharing, especially if not all children have food.

TRANSITION TO QUIET TIME: The teacher reminds the children to pack away the things
they used in recess time, clean up their eating area, throw their trash in the trash bin, wash their
hands, brush their teeth, change their wet clothes, and have their Quiet Time.

TRANSITION TO STORY TIME: While singing a transition song, the teacher “wakes” the
learners up and tells them that it’s time to listen to a story. When the learners are ready, the
teacher proceeds with the pre-reading activities and makes sure that the learners are listening
attentively.

Pre-reading Questions:
Define difficult words through picture.
Motivation question: How do the animals move?
Motive question: How will the animals in the story move?

During Reading: Ask comprehension questions.

Post Reading Questions:


- Sino ang nanalo sa karera? Bakit
- Sino ang natalo?Bakit
- Sino ang gusto mong gayahin? Bakit?
- Ano ang kilos ng mga hayop sa kuwento?
How did the animals in the story move? Demonstrate.

TRANSITION TO WORK PERIOD 2:(NUMERACY)


After the post-reading activities, the teacher gives instructions regarding the teacher supervised
and independent activities, answers any questions, and tells the learners to join their group and
do the assigned tasks.

Work Period 2:
 Teachers Supervised Activity: MEMORY GAME
Teacher will give examples/instances of the new lesson.
Learning Checkpoints: 1. Understand the concept of subtraction. 2. Relate to the
removal of a subset. 3. Solve subtraction sentences.
 Independent Activity
Instruction: Write the equation for each subtraction sentence.
HOME ACTIVITY: Write the missing numerals to complete the subtraction sentence.

TRANSITION TO INDOOR/OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: The teacher reminds the learners


about the time left in Work Period Time 2 around 15 minutes before Indoor/Outdoor Games.
After 10 minutes, the teacher tells the learners to start packing away the materials they used and
be ready for Indoor/Outdoor Games. A transition song or countdown may be used.

Indoor/ Outdoor Activity:


 Indoor Activity: Animal Movement Game (variation of stop dance)
 Learning Checkpoints: Let the learners wear the animal mask. Gather them in the middle of
the classroom. 3. Play a song about animals (example: Do the Monkey) and let the learners dance.
4. When the music stops, all children wearing animal mask animals must demonstrate their
movement (walk, hop, crawl, fly, swim, etc.) 5. Children who did not demonstrate the animal
movement will be out from the game.

TRANSITION TO MEETING TIME 3: The teacher tells the learners to help pack away the
materials they used in the Indoor/ Outdoor Games time and get ready to do the wrap up activities
in Meeting Time 3. A transition song or countdown may be used.
