Hi Tom, how’s life? We’re going to have a long holiday this summer, aren’t we? What are you going to do? You know
summer is a good time for camping and hiking. We are planning to go to the Devon mountain. It’s nice place for
camping and hiking. It’s also a nice place for fishing. There is a river near the campsite, but I’m not really keen on it.
At night we’ll sit around the fire and sing songs. Why don’t you join us? It’ll be more fun if you come. Let me know
soon.

Singapore, Wednesday, 28 September
Have you ever been in an aeroplane? I have last Monday. I flew to Singapore. Twelve days ago I went to the office
in Kuala Lumpur and bought my ticket. Then, very early on Monday morning, I went to the office again with my luggage and
got into the bus with the other passengers.

The bus took us to the airport. There, people took our luggage and put it in the aeroplane, and then, after about
twenty minutes, we got in too. I was a little afraid at first, because it was my first ride in an aeroplane, but a kind lady, she
was a stewardess, brought us some sweets and spoke to me, and soon I was quite happy again.
Then the captain of the aeroplane came and spoke to me, too. That made me afraid again. ‘Is nobody driving the
aeroplane?’ I asked. The captain laughed kindly and said, ‘Another officer is there. Don’t be afraid.’
We flew over some clouds. They were very white, like cotton wool, and beautiful. Then we began to come down
because we were near Singapore. We went through the clouds and flew over Singapore. It was very interesting. When we
got out of the aeroplane, I said, ‘I like flying!’

Prince Edward was the son of the Queen of England. One day the prince was walking alone in the country. He
walked a long way and became tired and hungry. At last he saw a cottage. An old woman was sitting outside the cottage.
‘Good afternoon, madam,’ the prince said. ‘I have walked a longway, and I’m tired and hungry. May I come in and
rest for a time?’
The old woman did not know that her visitor was a prince, she said,’yes, please come in and sit down. I’m going to
lay the table and make some tea.’
She took out the tea-things from her cupboard and placed them on the table. She put bread, butter, and cheese on
the table. She also brought out a jug of milk and a bowl of sugar.
‘Hellp yourself, sir,’ she said. ‘Cut some bread and take some butter and cheese when you’re hungry. As soon as the
kettle boils, you shall have some tea.’
The prince enjoyed the meal very much. When he had finished, he thanked the old woman and left the cottage. As
he was going out he said, ‘I’ll come back again one day.’
A few days later the prince returned to the cottage. There were three men with him, and they brought a cart full of
good things. All were given to the old woman.
