Core Competency
I am always accountable when I make commitments. For example, I’ve taken courses in
high-school that I felt were overwhelming but with persistence I was able to get through it.
Another example is my commitment to coaching and how I am responsible for children from
ages 3-12.
I show up to class and I work on my assignments to learn as much as possible from the
class. Doing this will affect my mark overall by being better prepared for tests.
Weakness
1. I understand learning takes patience and time.
I struggle when I don’t get the material that we are working on right away. I get frustrated
easily and have to step away from the task and calm down. With time, hard work and
someone to support me if needed I can understand the work.
Social Responsibility
Strengths
1. I can identify and appreciate different perspectives on issues and use and evaluate
strategies to resolve problems
I solve problems with the children that I coach as everyone learns differently and I have to
sometimes shift my approach on teaching the skills. As well as when the children start to
fight I have to help resolve the problem.
I coach with other coaches from ages 15 to 40. I have many relationships with people of all
ages whether it is a coach or teacher that I have had in the past, my old team mates, my
coworkers, or family members.
Weakness
1. I am aware of my community and environment and work independently and
collaboratively for the benefit of others.
When working in group project I try to split the work evenly and then I feel like I'm not doing
enough so I offer to do more or just say that I can do more, not because I don't trust the
other person/people to do good I just what to make sure that I am doing enough to
contribute.
Critical Thinking
Strengths
1. I can analyse and critique my work and my learning.
I am always trying to make my assignments better and I judge them hard, maybe a little too
hard.I find myself rereading and rewriting my assignments to improve and get the most
information in the assignment and out of the assignment.
2. I can explore and create new ways to represent my learning around a variety of
problems, events, issues, and needs.
I am always looking for new ways to represent my learning and grow as a student. By
keeping up with new technology and reading to keep my learning expanded.
Weakness
1. I can ask good quality questions, gather relevant information, and come up with well-
developed conclusions.
I have always had trouble asking for help but it's not because I don’t want help, it's because I
have problems coming up with the right questions to ask and when I have to explain what I
learned I can’t find the right words for what needs to be said.
Creative Thinking
Strengths
1. I can create new and unique ideas that may provide new perspectives that influence
how people think about topics.
Coming from a competitive sport and coaching I have always had to come up with new and
different ways to explain my ideas. I make new stations for the children that other coaches
have not seen before that work well with the children.
2. I can take my ideas, evaluate, develop, and refine them and make something
productive out of them.
I can take notes and take that information and make an infographic, a poster, or even a
slideshow to share what I have learned.
Weakness
1. I can preserve, and understand that failure can be productive.
Failling a task takes away my self-confidence and makes me feel like I didn't do enough
because I try my best and sometimes that's not good enough and I feel defeated.
Communication
Strengths
1. I can listen, learn to contribute meaningfully to discussion and debate, consider
different perspectives, and build consensus.
I talk with my peers and get their input on what we are learning and try to participate in class
discussions when I understand the material. I try to take into account that everyone has
different opinions and perspectives on different topics.
2. I can work with other students to plan, inquire, and solve problems.
When working in group assignments I communicate with the people I am working with to
come up with the best plan for the task and solve any problems that may occur. When in
REC I am always working as a team, solving problems and planning events for the school.
Weakness
1. I can reflect on the processes of learning and share what I have learned.
I sometimes have trouble putting what I learned into words and showing my learning when
I'm not prepared.
I respect other people and will use their preferred prounones and religion and try to explore
other cultures.
What I value has a strong impact on the choices that I make and I associate myself with
people that have similar values as me.
Weakness
1. I know my strengths and what makes me unique.
I can pick out my weaknesses better then my strengths and can understand how to work
around them better then my strengths.
