Notes
❖ This pattern is intended for plush yarn. The proportions may be changed if
you use thinner yarn.
❖ Crochet level – medium. Please, note that this pattern does not include the
lessons of crocheting. You should have previous knowledge of crochet
techniques.
❖ Work with single crochet in continuous spirals without a turning chain or a
slip stitch until otherwise is instructed. Knit a scarf with knitting needles or
crochet it using a crochet hook to your taste.
❖ Use a marker to indicate the end of the round.
❖ The finished product using the materials stated in this pattern is ~ 10.6
inches / 27 cm tall without ears and horns. The size of the toy may be
different due to crochet density.
❖ Make sure you crochet tight enough; otherwise, the stuffing will show
through the holes.
❖ The pattern is accompanied by a few videos. Watch them by clicking on the
link and follow to the YouTube channel. The video has the speed option. You
can adjust it by yourself.

The required materials:
❖ 100% Micro Polyester (Bulky 6). I used Yarn Art Dolce or Himalaya Dolphin
baby (100g/3.52oz - 120m/131yds).
The basic color (white, beige, or brown) – 1.5
skeins;
A bit of contrasting color yarn for hooves,
horns, and spots;
A bit of red yarn for a nose.
❖ Red yarn for a scarf. You can use any other
yarn that suits you. I used Kamtex Lotus
Grass Stretch (50g/1.76oz - 80m/87.49yds).
❖ Black yarn for eyebrows embroidery. I used
Yarn Art Jeans.
❖ Sewing thread for sewing the parts matching
your color. I used Iris yarn.
❖ Stuffing material (fiberfill/polyester) ~ 170 g.
❖ Crochet hook matching your yarn. I used a Clover
hook: 3.5 mm for the main part and 2.5 mm for the
nose.
❖ 2 knitting needles for a scarf (I used 3.5 mm) or
knitting needles matching your yarn (work loosely). The main yarn
❖ Tapestry needle for sewing the parts.
❖ Safety eyes D=15 mm.
❖ Artificial eyelashes (optionally).
❖ Glue for the eyelashes.
❖ Scissors, markers.
❖ Double-pointed needles or long needles
(for convenience in assembly).
❖ Hot glue gun (optionally).
❖ Foam rubber (sponge) to firm the neck: a
circle, diameter is 4 or 5 cm (diameter
depends on the size of the toy) and 2 cm
thick. Use the same foam circles to make
the paws stable (optionally).

Abbreviations (US)
MR - magic ring
CH - chain
St - stitch
SC - single crochet
Inc - increase (make 2 sc into one stitch)
Dec - decrease (2 sc together)
Sl st - slip stitch

Tips
1. It is inconvenient to make a magic ring with fleecy yarn, so I make 3 chain
stitches without joining the ring and crochet 6 sc into the 2 nd ch from the hook
(this 2nd st is the ring).
Watch the video: https://youtu.be/S4rGHZ-vvH8

2. Invisible decrease 3. Yarn color change

Watch the video: https://youtu.be/2WOvJjb-e3w

By watching a video, note how to grab the yarn for the first time. Grab it from
top to bottom. This technique is called X-shaped single crochet. Stitches are
perfectly stacked one onto the other.

*The additional notes:
If you want to crochet the felt boots, then change to
red or green yarn in round 8 and crochet one round
through back loops only (BLO). Later, we will crochet
the white or red fur through front loops (FLO). From
round 9, continue crocheting following the pattern
below, using one color yarn for the paws and hooves.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rnd 9 – (5 sc, inc) * 3 times (21)
Rnds 10-11 – 21 sc (21)
Cut yarn, leaving a tail, but do not close stitches because we will return to the
paws later.
Crochet the other paws similarly.

Stuff the body with fiberfill through the paws. Stuff it firmly but do not
stretch it loosely. Make sure that the paws do not disperse in different
directions. Regulate the evenness of the paws by spreading the stuffing
material!

yarn to make the last stitch lower than the
other stitches).
Cut yarn, leaving a short yarn tail.
Stuff the paws with fiberfill. Put something
into the paws, it will help to keep the shape. You can cut foam rubber according
to the size of the sole and insert it into the paws.

Crochet the soles using the same yarn that

we used for the hooves. Join the sole to the
paw.
Rnd 1 - start 7 sc in MR (7)

Rnds 9-16 - 48 sc (48)
Complete stuffing it with fiberfill.
If you install the eyes as you crochet, then install them between rounds 6 and
7. The distance between the eyes is 9 or 10 st (I recommend trying it on).
I prefer to install the eyes to the ready head. In this case, you can try them on
the muzzle and choose the required position. For more on this topic, move to
«Assemble» section.

Designed by Alena Titova @aleniya2
Neck
Mark the position of the neck between rounds 9-15 on the head. Outline a circle
with a diameter of 4 cm (or more if the head of your toy is bigger than mine
toy. I have 31 cm/12.2 inches) and pin in a circle. Begin to crochet around the
marked pins, starting from the backside.
Rnd 1 - 21 sc (21)
Rnd 2 - (6 sc, inc) * 3 times (24)
Rnd 3 - 24 sc (24)
Finish off in sl st. Cut yarn, leaving a short yarn tail.

To make the neck firm, cut out a circle from foam rubber (4 cm in diameter and
2 cm thick). You can stuff the neck with fiberfill firmly, but the foam rubber
prevents the neck from tilting. Insert the foam rubber into the neck before
sewing the head.

Stuff with fiberfill as you crochet.
Sew the holes with the working yarn if needed.
Rnd 7 – apply the first part and crochet 6 sc to the first part and 6 sc to the
base part (12)
Rnd 8 - 6 dec (6)
Rnd 9 – 6 sc (6)
Crochet one more round with 6 sc of needed.
Finish off in sl st. Cut yarn, leaving a short tail.
Stuff with fiberfill.

20

Spots
Use contrasting color yarn. Make 10.
Rnd 1 - start 7 sc in MR (7)
Form a circle with sl st. Break yarn, leaving a short tail and secure.

Eyes with eyelashes

You can glue the eyelashes to the eyes, but you need to prepare them in
advance so that the glue fully dries.
I use artificial eyelashes and cut half of them.
Remove the adhesive tape and glue them to the edge of the eye, closer to the
back. Then, apply glue gently and leave to dry.

Assembly
If you crochet the toy with thick plush yarn then it is more convenient to sew
all parts using a firm thread matching the color. I use Iris yarn.
If you want to sew on the head to the body first, and after that to assemble it,
then you can change the assembly sequence.

Head design
Mark the center of the muzzle to count the rows
conveniently. Put a pin in the center of the muzzle in
the chain foundation (the beginning of crocheting).

1) Sew the horns

Mark the position of the horns. Put a pin in the middle
of the head between rounds 12 and 13. Count 4
stitches from it to the sides, count 2 stitches from
them and put pins. Pin the horns in the marked points
and sew them in a circle two times. Insert the needle
and draw it out at the neck. Secure thread tails on
the neck (it will not be visible at this point later).

If the head is already attached to the body or installed on

joint then you need to secure thread tails after sewing and hide them inside the head.

22
Designed by Alena Titova @aleniya2
2) Sew the ears
Pin ears between rounds 12 and 15 under the horns. Sew them in a circle 2
times. Draw threads into the neck and secure.

3) Sculpt the eye sockets

Mark the position of the eyes between rounds 6 and 7. The distance between
the eyes is 10 stitches (I recommend trying the eyes on the muzzle).
If the eyes are already installed, then sculpt the eye sockets in the eye area
neatly. Watch the video: https://youtu.be/dVHilBNeC0Q
Insert the needle to the neck, and draw it to the right eye. Make one stitch to
the side and draw the needle back. Make one stitch and draw the needle to the
left eye. Make one stitch to the side and draw the needle back. Pull both
threads, sculpting (deepening) two eye sockets.
Secure thread tails on the neck. Repeat one more time if needed.

23
Designed by Alena Titova @aleniya2
4) Install the eyes
Watch the video: https://youtu.be/70ohMeFzgFI
Install the eyes in turn. First, attach the
first eye and after that the other.
Otherwise, the glue dries fast.
Make a small hole in the eye area, put glue
into it, and insert the eye in this hole. Wait
for drying.

5) Embroider the mouth and eyebrows

Mark the position of the smile. Put pins in 3 rounds lower than the center, 3 st
to the sides, and 1 round to the top.
Mark the position of the eyebrows between rounds 9 and 10. The distance
between the eyebrows is 10 st.
Watch the video: https://youtu.be/lHFoXHimXR4
Embroider the mouth and eyebrows using black thread.
Insert the needle and draw it out at the neck. Secure it at the neck too.
You can embroider the smile and eyebrows to your taste.

24
Designed by Alena Titova @aleniya2
6) Sew the nose
Stuff the nose with fiberfill gently. Shape the oval and apply it in the center of
the muzzle between the first rounds and chain. Sew it in a circle 2 times.
Insert the needle and draw it out at the neck. Secure it here too.

7) Embroider V-stitches
Mark the position of V-stitches in the center in round 8, and move to the sides
from above, as shown in the photo. Embroider stitches using a contrasting yarn.
Insert the needle and draw it out at the neck. Secure it here too.

25
Designed by Alena Titova @aleniya2
The head is ready. Now you can sew it to the body.

8) Sew the head

Insert the foam rubber (stuffing material) into the
neck. Choose a good position of the head. Make sure
the toy stays stable. Sew around the head in a circle.
Repeat 2 or 3 times. Sew it neatly. Stitches should be
invisible.
Cut yarn, secure, and hide the tail inside.

26
Designed by Alena Titova @aleniya2
9) Sew the tail
Pin and sew the tail to the body in round 5.
Cut yarn, secure, and hide the tail inside.

10) Sew the spots

Pin the spots on the back as desired and sew them on.
Cut yarn, secure and hide the yarn tail inside.

11) Make a blush on the cheeks (optionally)

Make a blush with chalk pastel or common blush.
Do it with a brush blush on the cheeks and the
inner side of the ear. I recommend trying the
color on something else, otherwise, if you don't
like it, you will need to wash the toy. Do not make
it too bright because it will not look nice.

27
Designed by Alena Titova @aleniya2
Scarf
Use red yarn and knitting needles. Use any desired yarn with a similar weight (I
use Kamtex Lotus Grass Stretch). Make sure you choose the suitable size of
knitting needles and your knitting is loose.
For those who wish to knit with thick plush yarn, then I recommend using 6
mm knitting needles.
If you do not know how to knit, then you can crochet the scarf with a crochet
hook. And if you want to learn knitting, then watch my video. The speed of the
video can be adjusted independently.
Watch the video: https://youtu.be/nqS-DBjsoAI
The rules of knitting:
Slip the first stitch and purl the last stitch (edge stitches).
Cast on 6 onto 3.5 mm knitting needles (4 sts if you work with thick yarn)
Continue knitting in a 1X1 Ribbing stitch, alternating a knit and a purl stitch
with edge stitches between them.
Rnd 1 – Slip the first stitch, purl, knit, purl, knit, purl (6)
Turn the work and repeat knitting until it measures the desired length (I made
it 60 cm/23.6 inches long). Bind off.
Cut 12 yarn strands for the fringe and 6 strands for each side. Attach them to
the scarf.

The deer is finished!

Movable head with a toy joint
To attach the head use a toy joint. The joint consists of - two discs, two
washers and split-pin. One disk should fit the size of the neck. I use a 4.5 cm
disk. The second may be slightly bigger than the first. I use a 5 cm disk. Use
round-nose pliers to attach the split-pin.
It is allowed to use any joints, including plastic ones.

After making 18 rounds of the head, mark the place for the joint. The point for
the joint should be in the center of the bottom of the head in round 13.

Collecting the joint: put the washer on the split-pin, then put the disk (the
bigger one) and then push this construction into the marked point on the head.
Unbend the split-pin to the sides so that it does not fall out. Stuff the head
with fiberfill and continue crocheting the head as following the pattern.

Rnd 2 – 7 inc (14)
Rnd 3 - (1 sc, inc) * 7 times (21)
Rnd 4 – 21 sc (21)
Rnd 5 – (6 sc, inc) * 3 times (24)
Rnd 6 – 24 sc (24) do not crochet the 6-th round if you want to make a shorter neck.
Finish off in sl st. Cut yarn, leaving a short yarn tail.
Put the neck on the split-pin of. Put the disk then the washer onto it. Twist the
split-pin in different directions using round-nose pliers.
Twist the split-pin so that the head held on tight, but spin well without force.

Design the muzzle as described above.

In the photo below, see an option for eye socket sculpting, if you attach the
head with a joint. Insert the needle to the eyes from the lower side of the
head between rounds 6-7. Sculpt as guided in the pattern, draw the thread tails
out, secure, and hide between rounds 6-7.
