Learning-Plan-GENERAL MATHEMATICS 11 Lesson 8

This document provides a 5-day learning plan for a Grade 11 general mathematics class on the topic of domain and range of rational functions. The plan includes objectives, standards, materials, and a daily procedure. Day 1 involves motivating students with an activity on ordered pairs and introducing the key concepts of domain and range of rational functions. Day 2 covers examples of finding the domain and range. Students are assigned work and a quiz is scheduled for Day 5 to assess learning. The overall goal is for students to understand and apply the concepts of domain and range when working with rational functions.

Day 1 and I. Preparatory

2 A. Motivation
PROCEDU
Our first activity will enable you to write ordered pairs.
RE
Questions
1.Who can still remember the ordered pair?
NOTE: 2. What are the names of two ordered pairs?
The whole Group yourselves into 3 members. Everybody, please look at the visual aids. Please
lesson may Group the following objects in such a way that they have common properties or
take 1 or 2 characteristics. Everybody, you read the example. Then, right after, you will make an
days ordered pair out of the activity you made. For Example, (Glass wine, Kitchen
Utensils)
I’ll give you 5 minutes to finish the task.

Questions
How many objects can be found in each column?
How did you classify the object?
Try to look at the examples. What have you observed to the domains?
Are they any repeating domains?
How about the range?

The Classroom Law

“Sa classroom may batas. Bawal lumabas, oh bawal lumabas. Pero pag sinabi, Pag
nag comply ka na nawal lumabas Pero may ginawa ka sa pinagbabawal nila, inayos
mo yung law ng classroom niyo at sinubmit mo ulit at pwedi na pala ikaw lumabas” -
Kim Chui, 2020

This is the famous lines of Kim Chui that make noise all over the social media last
May 2020. Literally, she is citing here a rule in a classroom about the students not
allowed to go out. She further explains that when you violate this rule but fix it and
submit it again for negotiation, then you can go out already.

Relating this to finding the domain, unlike the rule stated above, restrictions in
rational functions are none negotiable.

On the same manner, just like the nature of having a result in every action, Range is
the result after applying the domain. In the above citation, this viral quotes results to
the release of a new song entitled “The classroom Song”.

Domain of Rational Function

Definition
The domain of a rational function 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑃(𝑥) is 𝑄(all
𝑥) values of x that will not
make the 𝑄(𝑥) equal to zero.
The range of a rational function are all the possible resulting values of the dependent variables after we have
substituted the domain.

To find the Domain of the Rational Function:

Note: The denominator cannot be equal to zero.
To find the Range of the Rational Function:
(a) Find the Inverse of the Function (b)Find the Domain of the Inverse Function
(c)State the Range.
1
Example 1: Find the domain and range of f ( x )=
x

To find the Domain:

𝑥 ≠ 0. → The Denominator cannot be
equal to zero

𝐷(𝑓 ): {𝑥 ∈ ℝ|𝑥 ≠ 0} → Read as The Domain of function

is x is an

element of all real number such

that x is not equal to zero.

Example 2: Find the domain and range of 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥+2/𝑥−2

To find the Domain:

𝑥 −2≠0 → The Denominator
cannot be equal to zero
𝑥 ≠2
𝐷(𝑓 ): {𝑥 ∈ ℝ|𝑥 ≠ 2} → Read as The Domain of function
is x is an

element of all real number such that x is not equal to two.

B. Generalization/Value integration

 To sum up our lesson for today, what have you learned from our
discussion?

 What values have you developed during the discussion and

activity? SMART

 Do you have questions and clarifications regarding our topic?
