and fix it in the center hole of the track roller shaft
as shown in the photo.
3) Connect measure adapter (8) to measure adapter
(9).
4) Fix measure adapter (10) (with a magnet built in)
in the center hole on the opposite side of the track
roller shaft.
5) Extend measure (8) as far as measure adapter
(10) and read the shortest distance.

ing the following items, see the shop manual (Un-
dercarriage).

SECTION 2 GROUP 4
MEASURING AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS UNDERCARRIAGE TOOLS

How to use
1) Grouser height A 2) Multi-scale

!• Obtain an average by measuring 2•3 places on

both right and left sides.
• At swamp shoe never use the data obtained when
shoes slip or twist. Measure again at the good
condition shoes.
• Remove all mud stuck on the shoe. (Using a pinch
bar.)
• Measure swamp shoe at about 100 mm from ei-
! 2-4 ther end of the shoe. 2-4 !
2) Loosen shoe bolt (9) Test hammer

!• Check the shoe bolt by knocking with the test

hammer.
• A shoe bolt may be loose even though there is
no mud stuck on it. (A visual check should be
made.)
• Shoe bolt looseness may be caused by the "long
hole" of the shoe link.
3) Link height A (2) Multi-scale

!• Obtain an average value by measuring more than

2•3 places on both right and left sides.
• Check for cracked links.
It can be overlooked when the link is filled with
mud. (Clean up with a wire brush.)
• Measure the wheel tread at the place of greatest
wear.
• Some of rock, swamp, triple-grouser shoes have
steps on the link-shoe mating surfaces. These
steps must not be added to the link height.

4) Link pitch Regular A (1) Steel measure

Master B

!• Measurement shall always be made by first ap-

plying tension to the track by engagement of pin
with sprocket.
• Measure the lengths of
4 links, at a point more
than 2 links from the master pin.
• Measure at the place marked with arrows when
the measurement is conducted with the steel-
measure.
• Check for excessive wear on the corner of the
boss.
• Ask how many times the pin-bushing was re-
placed by new ones.
2-4-4
SECTION 2 GROUP 4
MEASURING AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS UNDERCARRIAGE TOOLS

5) Pin

!• Insert pin 10 between the sprocket and the track.

• Then move the system slowly backward to
provide proper tensioning.

6) Outer diameter of bushing A (2) Multi-scale

! 2-4 2-4 !
A is the smallest
of a, b and c

!• Check bushing for slippage or cracking.

• Valve of the part with large fatigue is considered
to be the measured data.
• Ask it there is if there is any turn over.
(It wear marks occur on the upper part of the
bushing, there is a possibility that the bushing had
been turned.)

7) Gap of linked faces (5) Thickness gauge

• Carefully check gaps, particularly on a machine

operated in high speed, carryall or scraper-tow-
ing tractor.
• Measure the gap between the outer and inner
link after scraping oil dirt.
• Measure with the track tightened.

8) Tread outer diameter of Carrier roller

(4) Outside caliper

!• Measure the entire carrier roller.

• Check the oil for quantity, contamination, and
leakage, and also check for excessive wear.

2-4-5
SECTION 2 GROUP 4
MEASURING AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS UNDERCARRIAGE TOOLS

9)Flange width of carrier roller (2) Multi-scale

10)Tread outer diameter of track roller

! 2-4 2-4 !
(2) Multi-scale

!• Measure the entire roller track.

• Measure at the flat place.
(Especially when extensive wear occurs on the
pin bushing.)
• Check for broken flanges.
• Check oil quantity, contamination and leakage.
(Any absence of oil is due to plays on shaft or
bushing. This suggests a great possibility of OH.)

11)Tread of front idler (15) Idler wear gauge

!• Measure the place with the most wear.

• Check the oil for quantity and contamination.

12)Tread width of front idler B (2) Multi-scale

2-4-6
SECTION 2 GROUP 4
MEASURING AND DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS UNDERCARRIAGE TOOLS

13)Gap of guide plates (5) Thickness gauge

!• When gap exceeds the limit of tolerance, recom-

mended a user for immediate adjustment of the
gap.

14)Wear on the tooth surface of sprocket

! 2-4 (8) Sprocket wear gauge 2-4 !

!• When applying the wear gauge, fit the upper and

lower portions at the standard line, and cover the
two sprocket teeth with the gauge so that the
quantity of wear of the right and left teeth becomes
equal.
• Where a sprocket is not of a segment type, the
standard line cannot clearly be determined.
Therefore, the amount of wear should be esti-
mated from the viewpoint of balance of the entire
profile.

15)Width of sprocket tooth (2) Multi-scale

!• A measurement should be made in the point

about 5 mm away from the tooth top.

799-501-1100 HOLDER ASSEMBLY

(FOR SPROCKET WEAR GAUGE)

! 2-4 2-4 !
Applicable model: D85P-21, D375A-2, Holder assembly

assembly
1 - "Guide 1 0.15
2 - "Pin 1 0.04
3 - "Wire 1 -
4 - "Pipe 2 -

Purpose:
This is used to make precise measurements of the Combination of holder assembly and wear gauge
wear of the sprocket or sprocket teeth.

Features:
1) The holder assembly has a pin which extends
perpendicularly from the standard measure ment
line on the wear gauge. By putting this pin in con-
tact with the standard line on the sprocket teeth,
it is possible to align the wear gauge precisely
with the sprocket teeth.
2) The center line of the tooth shape and the posi-
tion of the mounting bolt are printed on the
sprocket wear gauge, so it is easier to position
the wear gauge in the direction of the tooth cir-
cumference and the direction of the angle.

Necessary tools:
791-502-1961 Wear gauge (For D85P-21) 1PC
791-627-1111 Wear gauge (For D375A-2) 1PC
791-827-1111 Wear gauge (For D475A-2) 1PC

Structure of applicable teeth

! 2-4 2-4 !

Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Fig. 3

• Shape of applicable teeth : Fig. 1, Fig. 2

• Shape of non-applicable teeth : Fig. 3
(the casting surface is tapered, so it is impossible to set the holder in position precisely)

Example of use:
How to use:
1) Install the holder assembly to the sprocket wear
gauge.

2) Confirm the standard position for measuring the

sprocket teeth.
! Check that the position for measuring the
sprocket teeth is as shown in Fig. 1 or Fig. 2.

3) Set the holder assembly and wear gauge in posi-

tion on the teeth.
Put the holder assembly pin in contact with the
standard measurement position on the teeth, then
use the printed line on the wear gauge, press the Photo 1
wear gauge against the side face of the teeth and
determine the position.
(Photos 1 and 2)

4) Measure the wear.

Use the scale and the wear limit line on the wear
gauge, and read the amount of wear of the teeth.
