QUESTION 1:
(A) What is an evaporimiter? (2 marks)
(B) List two important elements that influence the measurement of evaporation. (1 mark)
(C) A reservoir with a surface area of 200 hectares has the following average value of climate
parameter during a week: Water temperature: 200C
Relative humidity: 40%
Wind velocity at 1.0 m above ground surface = 16 km/h
Estimate the average daily evaporation from the lake by using Meyer’s formula (7 marks)

QUESTION 2:
(A) With the aid of a diagram explain the process involved in the hydrologic cycle. (6 marks)
(B) List four factors affecting climatic condition and state the instrument used in measuring these
factors. (4 marks)

QUESTION 3:
(A) Define precipitation and expatiate on the formation of precipitation. (5 marks)
(B) Precipitation occurs as a result of some basic factors, list them. (2 marks)
(C) Differentiate between a cyclonic precipitation and a convective precipitation. (3 marks)

(A) State the different sources of errors in reading the Theissen instrument. (4 marks)
(B) List the four factors to be considered when siting gauges in a catchment area. (4 marks)
(C) What are the two main objectives in using precipitation gauges for hydrological purposes? (2 marks)

(A) A meteorologist measures the precipitation for five different stations as given in Table Q5 below.
