The Post Graduate Insolvency Programme (PGIP) is a globally unparalleled programme for those
aspiring to make a career in the discipline of special situations, turnaround, restructuring and
insolvency in India and foreign jurisdictions.
Initially, under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (Code) only professionals having 10-15 years
of experience could enrol themselves as Insolvency Professionals. As the Code developed by leaps and
bounds, there was a demand for a cadre of top-quality insolvency experts who could deliver world-class
services as resolution professionals, liquidators or in other capacities in the Indian insolvency
ecosystem. This marked the inception of PGIP.
PGIP is a two-year, full-time residential course offered by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. Under
the able guidance of renowned faculty and industry experts, the programme aims to cater to the
growing demand for turnaround and Insolvency professionals who are well-equipped with business
acumen, domain knowledge and leadership skills. The programme is recognized by the Insolvency and
Bankruptcy Board of India and is curated by a group comprising eminent economists and experts in
insolvency, finance and law. PGIP is an initiative designed to cater for the needs of the market by training
professionals to provide a 360-degree view of the stressed asset sector along with an understanding of
its social, cultural and practical dimensions. The programme offers opportunities to work with
prominent stakeholders in the stressed asset ecosystem; providing the graduates with the skills and
experience to start on the path to become tomorrow's industry leaders.
The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs established by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA),
Government of India, is a think tank which supports the initiatives of the Ministry on all matters relating
to corporate regulation and governance. Key activities carried out by IICA include induction and in-
service training to Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS) officers, capacity-building and training
programmes, public policy advisory functions, public outreach and stakeholder consultations through
seminars, conferences and forums. In particular, anticipating corporate needs for better ease of doing
business, reviewing corporate laws to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving business environment,
exploring new paradigms such as investor education, and periodic review of corporate governance
norms and best practices are some of the more recent, prominent initiatives spearheaded by the
institute. IICA imparts knowledge and training through its network of schools and centres.

MESSAGE
The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA),
has instituted a legacy of pioneering excellence in the field of insolvency and bankruptcy laws;
establishing itself as one of the leading think-tanks in the country. This has achieved fruition through its
persistent emphasis across all functional domains: from a robust academic vigour to meticulous
research on contemporaneous areas and themes touching across legal, economic, sociological,
financial, corporate consultancy; imparting training to all possible beneficiaries amongst academics,
corporates and policy makers; and through participation in governmental and stakeholder initiatives.
As the first institution steering the Post Graduate Insolvency Programme (PGIP), the IICA has come a long
way in the past five years. Over this period, IICA has nurtured the Programme for the newly evolved
ecosystem and its stakeholders. Our focus has always been to motivate, inspire, and channel the
potential of our students, from diverse backgrounds; and ultimately make it possible for them to achieve
their full potential, in both personal and professional growth. The structural components of the
Programme delineated across the Preparatory, Specialisation, and the Traineeship levels have been
successful in training a young cadre of professionals in a competitive manner.
In the year 2023, the fifth batch of the PGIP, comprising fifty-two candidates with diverse backgrounds
such as law, engineering, accounting, management etc., were selected through a competitive All India
Examination process. With an eclectic cohort of academics, cultural, spiritual, and social awareness
engagements at the campus; the Institute ensures a holistic development of the student-professionals,
thus preparing them to excel in all walks of life, heading to be Insolvency Professionals of the future. The
current batch of professionals is the first to undergo a module on financial and debt restructuring
focusing on a turnaround. The candidates are trained by working professionals to deal with any situation
arising in the stressed asset resolution. The alumni who are thought leaders in the industry and the
luminary faculty have enabled our student-professionals to be well-informed insolvency professionals
in the making. One of the essential components of the Programme is the one–year long traineeship
enabling the candidates to work closely with industry leaders within stressed asset resolution.
I take this opportunity to express gratitude to our existing distinguished recruiters and also extend a
warm welcome to our new recruiters to explore the young fresh talent ready to take corporate rescue
and turnaround to higher levels. It gives me great pleasure to introduce the current fifth batch of student
professionals undergoing the PGIP, who are ready to take their positions of prominence in the corporate
world. They shall take their first step towards traineeships and will carry on the tradition of excellence in
their future endeavours.
The batch possesses diverse skills and, over the past nine
months at IICA, has worked through various situations to
develop into special situations professionals proficient in
law, finance and engineering aspects of a turnaround in
addition to retaining the legacy skills that they acquired
during their professional qualification. The Course helps
them build a new profession which is just about to emerge
to help India and the world deal with the revolution.
Thank you

Specialization Phase – The Specialization subjects in the subsequent trimester would impart a deep
understanding of Code and its evolution, along with the legal framework within which insolvency
professionals are required to operate. Apart from a deep understanding of the Code, the students also
learn courses like financial restructuring, financial statement analysis, and distress assessment to help
them have a 360-degree view point that is required for a turnaround professional.
The programme has a unique long term internship phase where the students will gain exposure to real-
world problems and issues that perhaps are not found in textbooks. They will have hands-on
opportunities to work with equipment and technology that may not be available on campus. The
internship will help cultivate adaptability and creativity in a dynamic world, ease the transition from
being a student to entering the workforce, and increase self-confidence in the workplace while
developing an expanded network of associates and professionals.
The final trimester transforms the students into full-fledged industry-ready professionals, by providing a
platform to apply the unique blend of skills acquired by them to real-world applications. Students will

been drawn from diversified professional backgrounds. This mix of professionals provides the students
with an opportunity in cross-domain learning. The students of the Programme possess an ever-growing
drive to learn and thrive. These students are highly motivated, have a thirst for knowledge and are eager
to learn not only from the Programme, but from each other as well. Being a fully residential course, peer
interaction and feedback plays an important part in this learning process. By choosing this Programme,
they have embarked upon an endeavour that was up until now deemed unattainable.
COURSE
● The students are well-versed with every facet of the course including legal and financial.
● The internship provides relevant exposure to the students to the live cases in the industry.
After spending three rigorous trimesters, the PGIP internship experience helps students to apply their
specialized courses in insolvency and bankruptcy that follow the Preparatory and Specialization phase
to real-world problems and add significant value to the firms they work with. Thus, the internship
becomes a crucial part in the course structure.
The 12-month internship, in accordance with the IBBI Guidelines, is the longest internship offered in
PGIP compared to the summer internships available in other postgraduate programs.
● It gives significant time to the students to build-up a professional relationship and submit to the
assessment of the recruiters.
● Each student is assigned a faculty from the institute as an academic mentor and the reporting
manager at the interning company becomes the industry mentor.
● It will not only help the industry with professionals well-versed in the Insolvency regime but also
offer the industry with turnaround professionals.
● It will provide the recruiters with a fair idea about the composition and quality of the students when
they approach for final placement.
● The internship carries weightage in total course credits and is closely monitored by both academic
and industry mentors.
● The Internship will also benefit the market by creating opportunities to recruit future employees,
giving employers the opportunity to evaluate prospective employees virtually risk free.
● The students are motivated to convert their endeavours during the internship to receive pre-
placement offers. The internship helps the students, and the recruiters smoothen the transition
from internship to final placement.
