Who is he?
The identity of Banksy remains unknown. He was probably born in Bristol, England, around 1964 1974. He
became famous for his controv ersial and political street art created in the late 1980s 1990s. Since then,
controversial
there have been a lot of speculations about Banksy’s identity, but he has managed to keep it a secret –
often in a very polite way provocative style. When in 2010 The Independent Time magazine put him on
the list of 100 most influential people in the world, Banksy sent the newspaper his photo… with a band on
his eyes paper bag on his head.
Artwork
Banksy began his career as a graffiti artist in the early 1990s in London's Bristol’s graffiti gang DryBreadZ
Crew.. His early works were largely freehand, but later he started using stencils, which is how his most
Crew
famous pieces were made. His signature style is characterized by powerful images, often eco-friendly
political and combined with slogans. His work often criticises war, capitalism, hypocrisy and greed, which
makes Banksy not only an artist, but also a politician political activist.
